Senior Club Championship - 3rd Round

Played in Lewis Road on Sunday 15th of April

Dr Crokes 0-18 Austin Stacks 1-10

Our opponents got off to a great start, sending over three points without reply in the first five minutes, despite playing against the strong breeze. We had one of our two great periods in the game as we sent over six points without reply, some of them from long distances. Austin Stacks reduced our lead to a point with two points before the end of the first quarter. We had the next two points for a goal lead but a goal by our opponents in the 19th minute gave them equality as we entered the last ten minutes. We again went two points ahead but Stacks had two points before the end of the half to leave the teams level 0-10 to 1-7 at the end of the first thirty minutes. I'd say our opponents were more pleased than us at half time as they would have the advantage of the breeze for the second half.

I said we had a very good period in the first half but we had an even more productive period in the third quarter, scoring five unanswered points. This was the winning and losing of the game as the fourth quarter was very even with each side scoring two points which left us 0-18 to 1-10 winners.

Even though it would be hard to signal out individuals in this game one would have to mention the displays of Tony Brosnan and Micheal Burns who contributed nine points between them, five for Tony and four for Micheal and especially Brian Looney for his great work rate and two outstanding points. We more than held our own at midfield during the game and one would have to give credit to our defence who performed heroically especially in the last ten minutes to prevent Stacks from getting the goal they badly needed.

Team and Scorers: Shane Murphy, Jason Lyne, Mike Moloney, Fionn Fitzgerald, David O'Leary, Alan O'Sullivan, Shane Doolan, Johnny Buckley, Paul Clarke, Micheal Burns 0-4, Gavin O'Shea, Brian Looney 0-2, Tony Brosnan 0-5, Daithi Casey 0-4 (0-2 frees), Kieran O'Leary 0-3.

Subs: Michael Potts, Colm Cooper, Eoin Brosnan, David Shaw, Brian Fitzgerald.

Under 16

We played another home game in this u16 div 3 County League against near-neighbours Glenflesk.
The game started well with points from Niamh Stack and Ava Sheahan. Glenflesk were to prove no pushover and replied with points of their own but a goal from Julie Delaney and a quick point from Jess Leahy put Crokes girls into a commanding lead. A goal for Glenflesk just before halftime brought them within 3 points at halftime. 1-5 to 1-2.
A good start to the second half saw more points from Ava and Jess before Treasa o Sullivan put the ball in the back of the net and quickly followed with a point.
Another goal this time by Jess Leahy followed by a point each from Julie and Ava And a goal from Jade Potts put this game to bed about 10 mins from the end. Points from Niamh Stack and Julie completed the scoring for the girls.
Our backs defended extremely well from a determined Glenflesk attack. Holly Power Caoilinn o Donoghue Ellen Moloney Sarah Neher Emma Kelly and Megan Graham were strong in defence in front of keeper Faith Lockett
Final score Dr Crokes 4-12 Glenflesk 2-2.
