Weekly Notes 17th of December

O'Donoghue Cup - East Kerry Championship Semi Final

Dr Crokes 1-17 Rathmore 2-10

Played in Fitzgerald Stadium

A second half rally by Rathmore in which they brought down our eight point interval lead to two as we entered the last ten minutes. We did however fight hard in the remaining ten minutes and outscored our opponents by three points to one for a four point victory.

Our display in the first 20 minutes of the game was as good as any twenty minutes this year. At the end of this period we led 1-12 to 1-1. Our opponents finished the half the better and three unanswered points at the end of the half brought our lead down to eight points, 1-12 to 1-4.

Rathmore came out at the start of the second half meaning business. They sent over two points without reply to reduce their deficit to six points. Points by Kieran O'Leary and Daithi Casey on either side of a Rathmore point extended our lead to seven points after 40 minutes. Rathmore struck back with a goal and two points without reply to reduce our lead to two points with ten minutes to ply. There was a lot of up and down play in these remaining ten minutes. We however landed three points to our opponents one to give us a four point win at the final whistle.

Our lads had to fight hard for victory and we had very good displays by players from both sides. We had had exceptional contributions from Daithi Casey, Kieran O'Leary, who scored six points, five of them from play and Eoin Brosnan who had to retire at the three quarter stage.

Team and Scorers: Shane Murphy, John Payne (Capt), Eoin Brosnan, Fionn Fitzgerald, David O'Leary 0-1, Gavin White, Jason Lyne, Johnny Buckley 0-2, Daithi Casey 0-1 (free), Micheal Burns 0-2, Gavin O'Shea 0-1, Brian Looney 0-1, Jordan Kiely 0-2, Kieran O'Leary 1-6 (0-1 free) Mark O'Shea

East Kerry Championship - O'Donoghue Cup - Quarter Final

Dr Crokes 3-10 Gneeveguilla 2-5

In atrocious weather we got the better of Gneeveguilla as a result of a very good display against a strong wind to lead at the interval by 2-5 to 1-4. Both teams were glad that the Rathmore field was in great condition as it allowed the sides to play an open game.

Our opponents came more into the game in the second half and got within five points of us as we came into the last five minutes. At this stage we came right back into the game and went through for a goal after a good passing movement (more than the three consecutive passes allowed inthe suggested new rules). We played hold ball for the remaining minutes and were eight points to the good at the final whistle.

Team: Johnny O'Leary, Brian Fitzgerald, Eoin Brosnan (Capt), David Naughton, Kieran Ward, Jason Lyne, Lorcan Mc Monagle, Paul Clarke, Alan O'Sullivan, Mike Milner, Billy Courtney, Michael Potts, Jordan Kiely, Mark O'Shea, Gavin O'Shea.
