Weekly Notes 8th of July

Minors - Dr Crokes 1-10 Killarney Legion 1-12

Our minors played their second County Championship game v Killarney Legion in Direen on Tuesday 2nd of July. Missing a number of regulars we went into the game hoping to continue our good form from round one. The early stages of the game were very good for us and even though we missed a few chances, we were winning in most areas of the field. Our defensive unit continued their strong start to the championship and were restricting options for the Legions forwards. Even though an unfortunate defensive error gifted our opposition a goal, we were still in the game at half time. Killarney Legion 1-03 Dr Crokes 0-07 Playing a game against a breeze in the 2nd half we needed to work the ball in closer to score, where the Legions forwards has the luxury of being able to kick scores from distance. Following the early exchanges where we outscore dour opponents 2 points to 1, they then took over for 15 minutes and scored 6 unanswered points. But as things started to look bleak for us Tom Doyle sparked us back into life with a superb goal from distance. We followed with another great point to draw level with time up, however in added time the Legion scored 2 more points to finish the scoring Killarney Legion 1-12 Dr Crokes 1-10. While disappointed with the final score, on a day where everyone put their shoulder to the wheel and tried their very best, we have to be happy with the players aptitude to the challenge. Special mention however must to our best defender on the night, outstanding performances again by Neil O' Shea & Evan Looney, ably assisted by Liam Randles & Harry Byrne. Our midfield pairing of Mike Lenihan& Harry Potts held their own manfully, while up front once again, Padraic Looney, Cian McMahon and Tom Doyle caused the opposition problems all night. Next fixture St. Brendan's in Farranfore @ 7:30pm on Tuesday 9th.

Played on a lovely Summers evening our lads will started strongly with strong offensive performances by Robbie Harnett aided by Dara O’Shea and Fintan Martin.Beaufort came back into the game strongly and we led by 3-6 to 3-3 at half time. Our captain Maidhci Lynch at midfield as well as Ryan Neeson who moved to centre back for the second half put in strong second half performances as we won out by 4 on a score of 5-12 to 5-8.
