Club Notes Week 6 2020   10/02/2020

EAST KERRY U21

On Sunday afternoon our U 21 team got their season successfully up and running with a comprehensive win over local rivals Spa. This East Kerry quarter final championship pairing was scheduled to be played in Spa but due to adverse weather conditions was relocated to Lewis Rd. for a 2 pm throw - in.  Crokes won the toss and played the first half with a strong wind to their backs. Taking full advantage of this our lads raced into a commanding lead with a number of well taken scores. Spa  were slow to get into the game hindered by tight marking and at times by a robust wind. Throughout the first half the Crokes' backs were very impressive with notable performances from Mark Cooper, Evan Looney and Tom Doyle. Sean MaGann playing at corner forward put in a great first half performance  notching up a score of 1-3 before half time. Spa rallied with 3 well taken points and both teams headed for the dressing rooms with the Dr Crokes comfortably ahead on a scoreline of 2-9 to 0-3.

Spa began the second half with pace and urgency and aided with the wind made an immediate impact on the game and quickly added 1-2 to their half time score. The Crokes made a number of changes at half time and it took this new formation awhile to settle in. But as the game progressed our lads began to reassert their dominance  and with a succession of well taken scores put  the final result beyond doubt. The game ended on a final scoreline of Dr Crokes 2-13 to Spa 2-5. This was at times an impressive display by our U 21s being mindful  that it was their first competitive game of 2020. Our backs worked well throughout aided by some clinical scoring by our forwards. Sean Magann was hugely impressive throughout ending up with a personal tally of 2-7.

Well done to the team and their mentors.
