LOTTO: Draw took place in the Jack C's on Sunday last. Numbers drawn: 10, 11, 14, 19. There was no winner of the jackpot of â¬6,000. Match 3, 10 players each received â¬40. SENIOR CLUB C'SHIP:

Dr Crokes 0-17, Legion 1-10. Our display in this local derby was a mixture of the sublime and the mediocre. We put in a very good first half even though we were against the very strong wind. In the first ten minutes both sides exchanged points on four different occasions to leave it 0-4 each. We had the better of exchanges in the second quarter and went into a two point lead 0-8 to 0-6, going into the last few minutes of the half. The Legion struck for a goal just before the short whistle to go in at half time 1-6 to 0-8 in front. We had a purple patch at the start of the second half and sent over four unanswered points for a three point lead. Our opponents then had a player sent off shortly after. Playing against a team with a man less did not seem to give our lads any advantage and by the end of the third quarter the Legion had got back to level the scores. It was now game-on in earnest but we finished the stronger, after some anxious moments, with five points to our opponents one. It would be hard to pick out any of our players who didnât give it their all but some of our lads contributed that little bit extra to ensure our victory. Best in defence were John Payne, Mike Moloney and Alan O Sullivan. Eoin Brosnan and Johnny Buckley were on top at midfield except for a ten minute period in the second half. Best in attack were Daithi Casey, Colm Cooper and Kieran O Leary. Our best player on the day was Johnny Buckley.

MINOR CO. LEAGUE - DIV. 1 - S/F: Dr. Crokes 1-10, Ballydonoghue 3-08. Ballydonoghueâs first half display into a strong wind was instrumental in winning this game. They were on the offensive as much as ourselves and went in at the interval just one point behind 1-3 to 0-7. We turned in a much better start to the second half as we had three points without reply in the first ten minutes and went into a four point lead. The game was won and lost by us during the twenty minutes of remaining normal time and in the four minutes of injury time of this second half. During this period of twenty-four minutes, we registered just one score, a penalty to equalise in the 31st minute. We were on the attack as much as our opponents in this period but failed to get through for match-winning scores. After we had equalised in injury time, our opponents kicked over a long-distance free to go ahead again in the 32nd minute. Two minutes later, in the last play of the game, they rattled the net with a well-taken goal for a four point victory. Even though Ballydonoghue lost a player to a red card in the 45th minute, in the same period we lost our most influential player, Gavin White, who was black-carded. Our best players on the day were David Naughton, Gavin White, John Kerrisk, Paul Clarke, Mike Casey and David Shaw. There is no need for despondency after this defeat. We had a very mixed league campaign but have improved a lot since our first round game. MY GAA JOURNAL: At our Senior Game on Sunday, our two team mascots Leah and Adam helped us to launch our new underage Club Journal âMy GAA Journeyâ. This new book will help the boys and girls to keep a record of their time with the Crokes from their years in the Academy up to and including U12 and U14. There is room for recording their memories with photos and written comments as well as getting autographs from their favourite Crokes players and even managers. The Journal will be available on Saturday mornings at the academy training or from the club shop.

UNDER 12's / 11's: Our black team showed great improvement again this week losing to the Legion by four points. Playing against a strong wind in the first half we held our own and battled hard all over the pitch. A late goal on the counter attack proved to be crucial. Well done to all involved and hopefully we can continue to improve every week...next game against Austin Stacks at home. Our amber team had a powerful display and dominated throughout the game. With Cian O'Connor leading the way in defence the boys only conceded a few points and won 2-04 to 0-03. Just like the black team these boys have a great attitude and continue to improve.

UNDER 14: Dr Crokes under 14 Amber team had their second win of the county league last Wednesday against Austin Stacks in Lewis Road. This was a very good team performance with the foundations being laid by goalkeeper Adam Carey who pulled off two excellent saves and kept a clean sheet. Dr Crokes started well and good scores by Jack Linehan, David Moriarty and Aaron Brennan as well as solid defending by Ronan Buckley and Brian Harrington gave us a seven point half time lead. We consolidated the win against the wind in the second half with scores from Rob O Shea and Cillian Hickey and good performances by Conor Dillon and Caleb Russell. Team: Adam Carey, Ronan Buckley, Brian Harrington, Calum Neher, Caleb Russell, Terry Sparling, Conor Dillon, Adam O Connell, Jack Cooper, David Moriarty, Aaron Brennan, Jack Linehan, Rob O Shea, Lawrence O Donoghue.

HURLING: Not much on field activity to report this week. We were due to play St. Brendan's in the County League on Wednesday evening but were notified by the opposition that they were unable to assemble a team. Rather than claim a "walkover", we suggested that we play the game on a later date. This was agreed. This week we are scheduled to play away to Abbeydorney on Wednesday at 7.00pm and hope that we can get our season back on track.

UNDERAGE HURLING: Our U14 Hurling Team played in the Feile Competition on Saturday 25th April in Lewis Road. In their first game, Dr. Crokes drew with Rathmore, 0-4 to 1-01 but lost by 1 point to St. Brendanâs Ardfert on a scoreline of Crokes 2-00 Ardfert 1-04. Rathmore defeated St. Brendanâs Ardfert well in the 3rd game and therefore Rathmore and Ardfert qualified for semi-final next week. Dr. Crokes were very unlucky but well done to our neighbours Rathmore. Any young boys who would like to take up and learn the skills of hurling can join the under age panels by contacting John at 087-6534444.

LADIES FOOTBALL - UNDER 12: Our under 12 girls visited Spa on Tuesday last but alas came away second best on the night. The girls continue to improve each game and have improved immensely since the start of the league. Well done to the girls who played with some great skill and determination. Next game is at home to Kenmare.

UNDER 14: The girls headed west to beautiful Dingle on Sunday and came away with the points after a fine team performance, continuing their recent good form. Thanks to all the parents who helped with transport and supported the team and to the home club for their post match hospitality.

DICK FITZGERALD â 100 YEARS ON: Our club will celebrate the centenary of the publication of Dick Fitzgeraldâs book "How to play Gaelic Football" in the clubhouse on Friday, 8th May at 8:00 pm. All the Dr. Crokeâs Kerry Senior and Minor players from the 2014 All-Ireland will be present on the night and MÃcheÃ¡l Ã Muircheartaigh has confirmed that he will come to interview the players comparing how the game has evolved etc. Fr Tom Looney will deliver a 30 minute lecture on the book "How to play Gaelic Football". It was remarkable that Dick Fitzgerald wrote this book, published in 1914, at the start of World War 1, when the republican movement was getting going and he was a staunch republican. He was also captain of the Kerry team that won the All Ireland in 1914. 100 years later, Fionn and Kieran captained Kerry to All-Ireland success and Crokeâs players were very prominent in the All-Ireland minor success. It was also remarkable that Dick was still playing and published the book although he was the same age as Gooch at the time. This iconic coaching book was the first such one for the GAA and was still the only one until another Croke man, Dr Eamonn O'Sullivan, wrote his book "The Art and Science of Gaelic Football" in 1958. The night is open to all members and also to interested GAA folk from outside of the Dr Croke club.

SENIOR CLUB C'SHIP:

Dr. Crokes 6-22 St. Michael's, Foilmore 0-03. This game was over as a contest by the end of the first quarter. Even though we were against the breeze, we led at this stage 2-7 to 0-2. We completely dominated for the rest of the half and went in at half time with a lead of 5-11 to 0-02. We made a number of changes at half time and indeed gave six players a chance, after coming off the bench, to stake a place for next Sundayâs quarter final clash against Legion. In fairness to St Michaels Foilmore, they played far better in the second half. A club however that has lost the services of the three O'Connors, among others, are going through transition. It was very hard to judge what our own standards of fitness are at this point in time. However, we were able to use twenty-one players on the day and all seemed to be up to championship standard.

EK JUNIOR LEAGUE: Dr. Crokes 1-18, Kilcummin 0-08. Our junior teamâs good run of form continued on Tuesday last week with another impressive performance, this time against Kilcummin. The scoreline of 1-18 to 0-08 reflects the quality of players that we have available to the junior teamâs management again this year.

MINOR CO. LEAGUE - DIV. 1: Dr. Crokes 1-17 Austin Stacks 1-05. In a game that was going to decide which team would qualify for the semi final, we ran out easy winners, 1-17 to 1-05. This was played at Connolly Park and both sides started tentatively with the teams level two points each after ten minutes. The game was won and lost in the twenty minutes before half time as we scored eight unanswered points to go in at the interval 0-10 to 0-02. We were quick out of the blocks in the second half, sending over five points without reply, to go into a thirteen point lead. Stacks had their best chances in the game in the following fifteen minutes. They had two near misses for goals and scored 1-03 to reduce our lead to seven points. We took over again in the last ten minutes with a goal from Mike Casey and two further points for a twelve point win. This was a great team display with a back line that conceded only 1-05. Gavin White and David Naughton were outstanding but our four other defenders played with great tenacity and skill. Billy Courtney and Michael Potts were well on top at midfield for most of the game and both got their names on the score list. The forwards combined very well and even though four of them scored a total of 1-13 between them, it was the team performance of the attack the shone out. JUVENILE ACADEMY: Dr Crokes u8 and 10 boys hosted Glenflesk last Saturday morning and enjoyed great games played in a tremendous sporting spirit. Thanks to all the coaches mentors parents and players of both teams for contributing to a fun filled morning. Next game v Milltown sat 2nd May including games for U8 and U10 girls. Also U8 go games for boys commencing in May- venue Kilcummin - details to follow.

UNDER 12: The U12s continued their season with a visit to Kilcummin on Sunday 19 April with both sides having to play second best to the home side. These players are very much a work in progress and, even though they lost their games, their managers are happy to see they are showing signs of improvement.

UNDER 14: Crokes U14s made their own piece of history by winning the A section of FÃ©ile at the weekend. In the semi-final they overcame a Kenmare side on a scoreline of 4-6 to 1-3. In the final they defeated the home side, Laune Rangers on a scoreline of 2-1 to 0-4. The boys, their parents and managers were greeted on their return to the Crokes clubhouse by, among others, Fionn Fitzgerald and Daithi Casey who were on the last Crokes side to win the FÃ©ile. The team and management were introduced to one and all at half time in the senior club championship game on Sunday. We look forward to this team going on and developing into future senior players for the club.

UNDER 16: The Dr Crokes U16 team opened their season with an away game to Beaufort in the East Kerry League. The game was tight early on with some great passages of play from both sides. In the second half our lads took a firm grip on the game and ran out comprehensive winners in the end.The second game was at home to Legion and again our lads showed great skill and composure to run out easy winners.To date the players have responded very positively to both the training sessions and the games. We look forward to the next few weeks with optimismThe third game will take place April 20th away to Fossa.

HURLING: Sunny days, long evenings and the smell of newly mown grass are the signs that the hurling season has begun. So, after a well organised pre season training schedule supervised by the dedicated Timmy Hourigan, the competitive season has started. We compete in Division 2 of the County Senior Hurling League but we are sorry to report that our campaign got off to the worst possible start last week. We were listed to play Kenmare Shamrocks in Kenmare but due to a number of circumstances we were unable to field a team and were forced to concede the game. However, the show goes on and this Wednesday 22nd April at 7.00pm we have a home fixture against St. Brendans. It is hoped that all our players will see their way to make themselves available and turn the ship around. Lets rediscover our pride.

UNDERAGE HURLING: Our U12 hurlers were in action recently and gave a great account of themselves. Playing against a strong Kilmoyley side they eventually went down to a scoreline of 7-5 to 3-2. LADIES FOOTBALL: Our senior ladies played their last county league game v Austin stacks on Sunday at a very warm Connolly park. Another fine performance by the girls to come away with a draw on the scoreline Crokes 0-07, A. Stacks 1-04, with great defending by the Crokes defence all through this game, we also created 3 great goal opportunities to win this game. Stacks got their goal in 2nd half to put them ahead but came back to level it with 2 great points. Our next competition is the junior championship in June.

UNDER 12: Our U12 girls took on Rathmore on Tuesday last in the 2nd round of the league. This is a young under 12 team with some of the girls playing their first games in the black and amber. They played some lovely football but went down to a much stronger Rathmore side. Best wishes to Jade Potts on her recovery â hope to have you back soon.

UNDER 16: Our first county league game was played on Thursday last against Laune Rangers. After a great first half by both teams, Laune Rangers finished the 2nd half as the stronger team to win. Next game is against Castleisland Desmonds at home this Thursday at 7:00pm.

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE: The next meeting of the club executive takes place on Thursday 23rd April at 7:30pm.

SENIOR CO. LEAGUE - DIV. 1:

Dr Crokes 0-16 Kilcummin 0-09. The main highlight of this encounter was the return to a starting role for Colm Cooper, who lined out in his iconic number thirteen jersey for the first time in over a year. Although Kilcummin opened the scoring , points from Cooper, Brian Looney(3), Aaron Murphy, Daithi Casey and Kieran O'Leary pushed us into a 0-7 to 0-1 lead after the first quarter. Kilcummin responded with five points, offset by further Crokes scores from Chris Brady(2) and O'Leary to see us lead by 4 points the break. Kilcummin goalkeeper Shane Murphy made two smart saves from Cooper and Brady to deny Crokes a goal, but the home side outscored their opponents by six points to three in the second half, the Crokes scores coming from O'Leary, Cooper(3), Casey and Johnny Buckley.

SENIOR CO. LEAGUE - DIV. 4: Cromane 1-11, Dr Crokes 1-09. First defeat of the season for this team who were unable to preserve a lead to the finish having lost a player to a red card.

EK JUNIOR LEAGUE: Dr Crokes 3-11, Glenflesk 0-05. Comfortable opening league victory for the home side with the game effectively over by halftime with Crokes leading 2-9 to 0-1, the two goals courtesy of Gavin Tucker penalties, both coolly converted. Keith O'Leary removed any doubt of the result with a third goal in the second minute after the break and the game drew to its inevitable conclusion.

JUVENILE ACADEMY: The Juvenile Academy continues to flourish with large numbers enjoying the Hurling coaching from 10:00-10:40 and Football from 10:40-12:00 where there is plenty of activities and no shortage of fun and games for the children aged 3-10. We are always open to new members and with fully qualified and Garda vetted coaches, all children are guaranteed to learn the skills of Gaelic Games in a safe, friendly environment. Come along next Saturday to sample the fun. The annual Easter Camp was a great success, the fine weather adding the the tremendous array of fun games and skill development organised by Coaching Officer, Kieran Ward and his team. All the participants also received a Dr Crokes training top at the completion of the the three days coaching.

UNDER 16: Our U16s also entered competitive action this last week and came home from Beaufort with a win in the East Kerry League.

UNDER 14: Crokes U14s bounced back from an opening round defeat to register their first County League win at home to Kenmare on Wednesday 8th April. They added to this progress by qualifying from their group in Feile at Rathbeg on Saturday and will contest the County Semi-final of this competition this coming weekend.

UNDER 12: The U12s opened their season by entertaining Laune Rangers at Lewis Rd on Sunday 12 April 2015 with both sides having to play second best to the visitors.

LADIES FOOTBALL: Our U12s started their County League with a narrow defeat to Glenflesk.

The U14 GIrls however recorded back-to-back wins this week against Laune Rangers B and Castlegregory.

MASTERS CHALLENGE: When the dust had settled after four days of competition, John Griffin came through in the final round to emerge as overall winner of our Masters Challenge, scooping the first prize of â¬1,000. Thanks to all who entered this very popular fundraiser towards club expenses and we look forward to another tight contest for the US Open Challenge in June.

EK SENIOR LEAGUE FINAL:

Dr Crokes 1-14 Legion 1-11. Once again this local derby was keenly contested with Dr Crokes responding when required in the closing stages to emerge victorious. Crokes were glad of the availability of Daithi Casey, who set us on our way with a goal in the first minute following a foraging run up the wing by David O'Leary and fine interplay involving Jordan Kiely. Brian Looney was on hands with a point shortly after, finishing another good move involving Micheal Burns and Gavin O'Shea before Casey set up Burns to point before adding one himself from a 14 meter free, won by Kiely. Crokes were now 1-3 to 0-0 up after just 6 minutes. Burns added another good point on 10 minutes before Legion first troubled the scorekeeper in the 11 min with a Kevin Breen point. Conor Keane added another score for the Legion two minutes later, the beneficiary of a bad turnover in the Crokes defence. Luke Quinn then raided upfield from the fullback line and was set up to point by Kiely. A minute later Andrew Kenneally put his goal chance just pass the post but Burns pointed immediately, before Casey and Legions David O'Sullivan traded points from frees. Keane landed a 45 meter free for Legion after 28 minutes,added to a minute later by subsititute Aidan Slattery before Chris Brady tapped over a 14 meter free for Crokes to leave the half-time score 1-8 to 0-05. Legion were gifted a goal through Keane in the first minute of the second half after carelessness in the Crokes defence and the same player pointed in the 32nd minute to leave the score 1-8 to 1-6. Game on. Micheal Burns was replaced through injury by Tony Brosnan after 35 minutes and a Kiely point settled Crokes somewhat before four Legion scores without reply from David(3) and Jamie O'Sullivan pushed Legion a point ahead with 14 mins left. It was now that Crokes showed their mettle and after Brosnan had drawn us level from a pointed free, Brian Looney regained the lead,set up by a Michael Moloney burst upfield. Brosnan registered another fine point from play and after a period of sustained possession, Brady pointed to put three points between the teams. Casey added an additional point from a 45 meter free before David O'Sullivan reduced the margin to one score. Legion squandered a late goal chance in the last minute and when the referee blew full-time, Crokes were victorious on a 1-14 to 1-11 scoreline. Obviously given the Kerry v Tyrone game the following day, both sides were short their Intercounty players for this game and it was great to see Colm back on the playing field in Omagh, the result of a long and lonely period of rehabilitation after serious injury. Hopefully we will be reporting on his exploits in the Black and Amber in the near future.

SENIOR LADIES CO. LEAGUE - DIV. 2: Dr Crokes 2-09, Listowel 5-08. Although well in the game at halftime, our depleted squad again suffered another defeat, this time to Listowel on Easter Sunday.However the teams true progress will not be seen until all players are available.

Kenmare were the visitors to our academy on Saturday 4 April, where the under 8/10s of both clubs played Go Games in both Hurling and Football. There was an abundance of talent on display in both codes and all the children enjoyed the non-competitive games.

U-14 FOOTBALL: Dr. Crokes U14s lost their first County League Division 1 game, away to Laune Rangers on Wednesday 1st April. A good first half performance saw Crokes lead at halftime but Laune Rangers ability to create and finish second half goal chances proved decisive and they emerged comfortable victors on the night.

Our U12 Hurlers travelled to Kenmare on Friday 3 April but returned home empty handed after the home side inflicted a heavy defeat on our young team.

However Dr Crokes U14 Hurlers played out a brilliant draw with Tralee Parnells at Lewis Rd on Saturday 4 April showing fantastic effort, courage and determination to secure the point that at one stage looked unlikely. Final score Dr Crokes 2-9, Tralee Parnells 1-12.
