MINOR CO. C'SHIP - QTR. FINAL: Dr. Crokes 5-20 Kenamre District 3-02. By virtue of this win over Kenmare we have reached the semi-final of the Competition for the second year in a row. The fact that our opponents had to line out without two of their Kerry Minors, put us in the driving seat before a ball was kicked. Despite the unavailability of these players we found it hard to break them down in the first half. They were tight in defence for most of this period and dangerous in breakaways. The game change came close to half time when we went through for two goals, scored by Mike Casey and Paul Clarke, to send us in at the interval, leading by 3-04 to 1-02. We got a dream start to the game, with a goal by Adam O'Shea in the first minute. Kenmare got on top in the next five minutes and had two unanswered points. Before the end of the first quarter, we had four points without reply to establish a five point lead. Neither side scored in the next eight minutes but our opponents went through for a goal in the 24th minute, to leave us just two points in front. The defining moments of the game came just before half time when we raced through for two goals and an interval lead of eight points. The second half was dominated for the most half by us. We had 1-2 in the first five minutes but a goal by our opponents two minutes later left ten points between the sides. Kenmare were feeling the loss of their two star players at this juncture and we played some good football and knocked over six successive points to go into an unassalable lead. Both sides ran their benches in the last quarter. Our opponents, to their credit never gave up but the task in hand was too formidable and we ran out convincing winners. Our display was like the curates egg, good in parts. We had a ragged first half but played good football in the second thirty minutes.
Team and scorers: Tony Clifford, Brian Fitzgerald, Jack Lenihan, David Naughton, Michael Potts, Gavin White 0-01, Creagh Courtney 0-02, Billy Courtney 0-03 (0-01 45'), John Kerrisk, Mark O'Shea, Michael Casey 1-01, Jack Griffin 0-01, David Shaw 1-03, Paul Clarke 1-00, Adam O'Shea 2-04 (1-00 penalty 0-02 frees). Subs used: Brendan Coppinger 0-2, Mark Hartnett 0-01, Dylan O'Sullivan 0-02, Killian Fleming.

INTERMEDIATE HURLING C'SHIP - QTR. FINAL: Dr. Crokes 3-16, Kilgarvan 4-12
After a long period without matches, our Senior Hurling team “got back on the horse” on Friday evening last when they travelled to Kilgarvan to take on the local club in the first round of the Intermediate County Championship. It was a close run game but our lads put in a battling performance to emerge winners in extra time by a one point margin. This result puts us into a County Semi Final against Lixnaw to be played on Sunday next September 6th at a venue and time to be arranged. A remarkable example of true sportsmanship was witnessed during the game when a shot from Kilgarvan player/manager, Flor O’Brien, ended up in the net and the umpire raised the green flag. However, Flor immediately went to referee, Paddy White, and told him that his shot had gone through the side netting and was in fact a wide so the “goal” was disallowed. We are grateful to Flor for his gentlemanly gesture that probably cost his team the game. He is great sportsman who always plays the game in the true spirit. Dr. Crokes lined out as follows (including subs used): Jamie Lenihan, Shane Kavanagh, Kevin Landers (Capt) Dan Guerin, Rory Waters, Brendan McMahon, John Ivory, Jack Lenihan, Sean Burchill, Aaron Murphy, Michael McCarthy, Michael Eoin Buckley, Sean Morris, Brendan O’Donovan, Andrew Kenneally, Keith Curtin, Mike Murphy, John Riedy.

COLM COOPER INVITATIONAL BLITZ 2015: The forth Annual Colm Cooper Invitational Blitz will be held at Dr Crokes Lewis Road on September 5th 2015 from 11:30am to 6:30pm. This football competition is for U13 Boys and has proved a tremendous success since it's launch in 2012. Firies won the inaugural event, followed by Corofin of Galway(2013) and Skerries Harps of Dublin (2014). Designed to pay tribute to Colm, who has provided Crokes and Kerry with many highlights to date. The Blitz is seen as a celebration of Gaelic football, where it is hoped all the players express themselves and enjoy the games and off field activities. It also provides an opportunity for all supporters of Dr Crokes and Gaelic games in general, to join in this display of the skills of football. This year we see Skerries Harps Dublin, Corofin of Galway, The Nire Waterford, Bishopstown Cork, Ballyholland Harps Down, Ballincollig Cork and Fr Casey's Limerick. The Cup, Plate and medals will be provided by the Coffey Family in memory of Denis Coffey, a wonderful link between the past and present of the Dr Crokes Club that this event represents. Mark next Saturday 5th September in your diary to come and celebration a superb event.

U14 GIRLS FOOTBALL: This team returned to competitive action against Firies away in East Kerry League on Monday 17 Aug. After a prolonged break since their last game ,in the County league final, this performance was below the standards set earlier in the year by this young team. Having worked hard against the elements in the first half to put themselves in a good position to press on, a lack of concentration in the early stages of the second period allowed Firies to post scores that proved impossible to peg back before the end. Despite the result it was great to have 5 substitutes to call on,with all the squad gaining valuable game time ahead of our remaining fixtures.

U12 GIRLS FOOTBALL: Mixed fortunes for this team in their opening East Kerry fixtures. A fantastic second half display away to Beaufort wasn't enough, going down by a point.
They responded by securing a win at home to Milltown/ Listry in their second game and are improving all the time.

DERRYNANE TRIP: U12/14/16 squads thoroughly enjoyed their Club trip to Derrynane on Friday 21 August where they sampled sailing, kayaking, snorkelling , paddle surfing and archery. Well done to all concerned.

24/08/2015

LOTTO: Draw took place in the Speakeasy on Monday last. Numbers drawn 5, 6, 16, 22. There was no winner of the jackpot of â‚¬11,100. 9 players matched 3 numbers and won €45 each. Next week's jackpot is €11,400. Draw will take place in the Tatler Jack on Sunday 30th August 2015. Match 3 Winners: Dave O'Connor (8 Ashgrove), Tim Looney (Countess Grove), Ger McGillicuddy (c/o Chris), Mike Neeson, Joe O'Shea, Vera Healy (Annaghbeg), L.M. Flynn (Ferndale Avenue), C. Howe, Michael Moloney (56 St. Brendan's).

EK MINOR LEAGUE - SEMI-FINAL: Dr Crokes 2-17 Firies 2-13. As a result of this four point win over Firies we qualified for the final of the East Kerry League against Spa.
The teams exchanged points in the first five minutes. We went three points ahead by the tenth minute but a good goal by our opponents in the 11th minute put them ahead by a point, as they had also scored a point a minute earlier. Firies went two points ahead by the fifteenth minute, scoring two pints to our one. A goal by Dylan O' Sullivan at the start of the second quarter from a pass by Michael Potts put us back in front. The remaining minutes of this quarter belonged to Fiies who sent over five pointsto our one for a half time lead of 1-09 to 1-06.
Whatever was said to our lads at half time, they came out with all guns blazing. We had the first three points of the third quarter but our opponents regained their composure and two unanswered points put them two points in front with twenty minutes to go. In the next ten minutes we got well on top. We sent over five points without reply, one of them a great forty five by Adam O' Shea, his second forty five of the game. This left us three points in front and looking to have victory in our sights. Firies however had other ideas and a goal and a point without reply put them a point in front with seven points to go. Our superior fitness levels enabled us to put in a grand stand finish. A goal by Adam O' Shea from avery good Mike Casey pass and two more points to our opponents one, gave us a four point winning margin at the end. This was a great work out for us, before next weeks County Championship game. It also gave us a chance to give game time to our fringe players. Our best on the night were Brian Fitzgerald, John Kerrisk, Mark O' Shea, Michael Potts, Mike Casey, Brendan Coppinger and Adam O' Shea. Dr Crokes Best Player - Adam O' Shea. Team and scorers: Tony Clifford, James Mc Auliffe, Jack Linehan, Brian Fitzgerald, Mark O' Shea (0-01), John Kerrisk, Creagh Courtney (0-02), Paul Clarke, Michael Potts, Jack Griffin (0-01), Mike Casey (0-03), Brendan Coppinger (0-02), Adam O'Shea 1-6 (0-02 frees, 0-02 45's), Dylan O' Sullivan (1-01), Michael Owen Buckley. Subs used: Mark Hartnett (0-01), Conor Harrington, Shane O' Connor.

LOTTO: Draw took place in Jack C. O'Shea's on Sunday last. Numbers drawn 5, 7, 17, 21. There was no winner of the jackpot of â‚¬10,800. 17 players matched 3 numbers and won €25 each. Next week's jackpot is €11,100. Draw will take place in the Speakeasy on Sunday 23rd August 2015. Match 3 Winners: Ger O'Shea (Desmesne, Ross Road), Jamie Lawlor (Shinnagh), Stephen O'Donoghue (18 Bridgefield), Anne Ferris (Park Road), Eamonn & John (c/o Mike), Jim Delaney, Honor Doyle (c/o Jim), Don Brosnan, Steve McCarthy, Dave Hurley (c/o Speak), Eddie & James (c/o Larry), Bridget Moore (c/o Larry), Smiler & Shelly, Ciara Gallen (Tyrone), Dave Kelly (c/o PJ), Eddie O'Connor, Mike Cahill (Tullig, Spa).

SENIOR CO. FOOTBALL LEAGUE - DIV. 1: Dr Crokes 0-12 Finuge 0-03. As a result of our nine point win over Finuge on Friday last in Finuge, we retained our place atthe top of the table. We now have fifteen points going into the last two rounds and most of these points have been accumulated when we had to line out without many of our first team regulars. This shows that we have a fairly strong panel and should ensure plenty of competition for places on the first fifteen in the forthcoming County Championship. We failed to score in the first ten minutes, finding it hard to break down a well organised Finuge defence. They were first to score and led by two points to one after twelve minutes. Our opponents failed to score for the rest of the half as our relentless attacking play breached our opponents defence and yielded five points and a half time lead of 0-06 to 0-02. We were well on top again in the second half and three points without reply in the first ten minutes pushed us seven points in front. A Finuge point in the thirteenth minute of this third quarter reduced the lead to six points. We were very much on the offensive again in the last quarter and three points without reply in this period left us 0-12 to 0-03 in front at the end. Finuge did have many attacks during the game but our defence dealt adequately with what was thrown at them. Our opponents concentration on defence which made scoring tough for us, left them short of numbers upfront and outnumbered when they were on the offensive. This was am adequate all round display. Our best on the night were Mike Moloney, Cilian Fitzgerald, David O' Leary, Ambrose O' Donovan, Shane Myers and Jamie Doolan. Best Dr Crokes Player - Jamie Doolan. Team and Scorers: Alan Kelly, John Payne, Mike Moloney, Cilian Fitzgerald 0-01, P.J. Lawlor, Shane Doolan, David O'Leary, Ambrose O'Donovan 0-01, Cilian Regan, Shane Myers 0-01, Brian Looney 0-01, Mike Milner, Chris Brady 0-01, Andrew Kennelly 0-1, Jamie Dolan 0-05 (0-04 frees). Subs used: Gavin O'Shea, Philip O'Connor 0-01, Paul Clarke, Shane O'Neill, Dara Stack. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Chris Brady and Cillian Fitzgerald who suffered injuries during the game.

SYMPATHY: Deepest sympathies to the O'Shea Family on the death of Murt. Also to Matthew Courtney on the death of his Uncle Tade Kelliher (Cork) and Michael O'Keeffe (Our IT Officer) on the death of his grandmother, Kathleen Moynihan from Rathmore, buried last Friday.

BEST WISHES: Best wishes to Senior team player Mike Milner who is getting married at the weekend to Mags Kelliher. Congrats and best wishes to Kerry Ladies Footballers who beat Mayo in the All Ireland quarter final especially to Amanda Brosnan and Rheanne O'Shea. Best Wishes to Kerry seniors and minors in Croke Park on Sunday especially to Senior players Colm, Johnny and Fionn and to minor players Billy Courtney, Gavin White and David Shaw.

BIRTHDAY WISHES: Happy Birthay to Eddie O'Connor who celebrated his birthday during the week.

10/08/2015

LOTTO: Draw took place in the Tatler Jack on Monday last. Numbers drawn 2, 13, 14, 15. There was no winner of the jackpot of â‚¬10,500. 5 players matched 3 numbers and won €80 each. Next week's jackpot is €10,800. Draw will take place in Jack C. O'Shea's on Sunday 16th August 2015.

EK MINOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE: Dr Crokes 1-14 Gneeveguilla 1-6As a result of our eight point win over Gneeveguilla, we qualified for the semi-final of the East Kerry Minor League, Division One. We will be playing Firies in this semi-final. The teams were evenly matched in the first half. Gneeveguilla had a point after two minutes but it was nip and tuck after this until the last five minutes of the half. A good team goal by Michael Potts, left us 1-6 to 0-5 ahead at the interval. We started the second half very positively, scoring three points without reply and a seven point lead. Our opponents however struck back and engineered a very good goal. We were well on top in the last quarter, scoring five points to Gneeveguilla's one. This gave us victory by eight points at the final whistle. The game could have been a lot closer but for two great saves by our goalkeeper Tony Clifford, one in each half. Our best players on the night were Tony Clifford, Brian Fitzgerald, John Kerrisk, Paul Clarke, Mark O' Shea, Mike Casey and Michael Potts. Team and scorers: Tony Clifford, Conor Harrington, Jack Lenihan,Brian Fitzgerald, John Kerrisk, David Naughton 0-01, Paul Clarke, Michael Potts 1-02, Brendan Coppinger 0-01, Mike Casey 0-02, Mark O' Shea 0-03, Mark Hartnett, Adam O' Shea 0-04 (0-01 free), Michael o. Buckley. Subs used: Jack Griffin 0-01

MINOR CO. C'SHIP - LAST 16: Dr Crokes 1-16 Austin Stacks 1-7. Even though we got off to a good start with two early points, Austin Stacks took their scores better in the first quarter. At the end of this fifteen minutes they led by 1-3 to 0-2. We were well on top in the second quarter, scoring six points to our opponents two, leaving the teams level 0-8 to 1-5 at the interval. We dominated for most of the second half, mainly through a defence that yielded very little and well marshalled by Gavin White, a strong midfield display by Paul Clarke and Billy Courtney and good scores from Adam O' Shea, Mike Casey and Jack Griffin. Our opponents never gave up and but for some poor marksmanship could have been closer at the end. Team and Scorers: Tony Clifford, Brian Fitzgerald, David Naughton, Jack Lenihan, Michael Potts, Gavin White 0-1, Creagh Courtney, Paul Clarke, John Kerrisk, Jack Griffin 0-2, David Shaw 0-1, Mark O' Shea, Mike Casey 0-5, Billy Courtney 0-1, Adam O'Shea 1-6 (0-3 frees). Subs used: Brendan Coppinger, James Mc Auliffe.

U16 FOOTBALL: Our under 16 footballers played Firies in Farranfore on Wednesday evening 5th of August in the County League semi final in a close hard fought game with the final score being Crokes 2-06 Firies 2-09. We went into this game with a few players carrying injuries and unfortunately we lost Lorcan McMonagle who was playing at midfield about 10mins into the game with what appears to be a nasty ankle injury. We would like to wish Lorcan a speedy recovery and hope to see him back in a Crokes Jersey in the not too distant future. We are now awaiting the commencement of the U-16 East Kerry Championship.

GET WELL: Best Wishes for a speedy recovery to Donal "Socky" Lynch, former player and mentor who is convalescing after a recent accident.

CONGRATULATIONS: to Edmund O'Sullivan and Juliet Murphy who were married last weekend.

SYMPATHIES: Our deepest sympathies go to family and friends of Zoe O'Connor (nee Brennan) RIP who is an aunt of Mia Brennan from our U16 girls team.

SPEEDY RECOVERY: to Moss Harmon from a recent illness and to Johnny O' Leary who we hope to see back on playing fields again soon.

EK MINOR LEAGUE: Played in Lewis Road on Saturday 26th of July we got off to the best possible start in this home game. We scored 2-03 without reply in the first ten minutes and went on to record a comprehensive win. Paul Clarke and John Kerrisk, both of whom started brightly, continued to dominate midfield for the rest of the half and this gave us the platform for numerous attacks and a big half time lead. Legion came into the game a bit more at the start of the second half but found it hard to break down our very tight defence. Our mentors gave game time to many of our fringe players in the second half as we went on to add to our scoring tally and a place in the semi final of the competiition against Firies, if we beat Gneeveguilla in our final game. Best in defence were Brian Fitzgerald, Jack Linehan and David Naughton. Paul Clarke and John Kerrisk were well on top at midfield, our attack combined very well with Adam O'Shea, Mike Casey and Michael Potts emerging as our best offensive players. Adam O'Shea scored 3-04 (0-02 Frees) and Mike Casey 0-09 all from play. Team and subs: Tony Clifford, Brian Fitzgerald, Jack Linehan, Conor Harrington, James McAuliffe, David Naughton, Creagh Courtney, John Kerrisk, Paul Clarke, Michael Potts, Mike Casey, Brendan Coppinger, Mark Hartnett, Adam O'Shea, Dylan O'Sullivan. Subs used: Donal O'Sullivan, Shane O'Connor and Jack O'Connor. All three had a point from play.

U16 FOOTBALL: Our U16 footballers played out a draw against Legion at Direen on 29th of July on a score of Dr Crokes 1-09 Legion 2-06. This result was enough to see us qualify for the County semi-final which is fixed for the 5th of August and this game is away to Firies.
