INTERMEDIATE HURLING FINAL Dr. Crokes 2-15 Tralee Parnells 0-14. On Sunday last at a sun-baked Austin Stack Park we bridged a 19year gap to win our third Intermediate title.

LADIES What a wonderful week our ladies had this past week with our U16 girls winning the Div 3 County league on Wednesday evening and our Senior ladies claiming the Junior A Championship on Sunday.

Both games were pure exhibitions of football - high-scoring, competitive games.  Huge congratulations to both panels and management teams on the hard work that they have put in over the past few months and the great heart that both teams showed to get them over the line.

U16 Div 3 County League Final - Dr Crokes 4.14 Fossa 3-16

Our girls were the slower out of the starting blocks on this occasion with Fossa racing in to a 2-04 to 2-point lead.  A few positional changes and the introduction of defender Sarra Neher settled our girls down and we began to find out feet and close up the defence. With our forwards clinical in converting their scores, we had the deficit back to a point by half time.

The second half was a tense affair, with no more than a point or two between the sides at any stage, the Dr Crokes girls held their nerve and a combination of lovely scores and terrific defending we managed to hold out against a strong Fossa team for a tremendous win.  Team & Scorers: Aisling Crowe, Debbi Maye, Rocha Clifford, Teagan O'Sullivan, Emma Kelly, Sinéad Oliver, Ali O'Donoghue, Laura O'Carroll (C), Laura O'Shea (0-2), Eimear Cronin (1-01), Katie McCarthy (0-01), Selina Thawiset-Collins, Sarah O'Sullivan, Leah McMahon (3-07), Pia Hickey (0-03). Subs: Sarra Neher, Cara O'Sullivan, Natalia Maj, Jocelyn Hickey, Siofra Randles.

Management: Karena O'Leary, Brendan Connors, Karl McMahon

Junior A Championship Final - Dr Crokes 6-19 MKL Gaels 5-20

This game was always going to be a close one - both teams had comprehensive wins in their respective Semi-Finals and there has never been much between the sides in previous encounters, but what an epic game these players produced in the Fitzgerald Stadium in glorious sunshine on Sunday afternoon.  Both teams had their purple patches - MKL Gaels completely dominating the first quarter, with Dr Crokes girls taking control for the second 15 minutes of the half.  With goals from Rheanne O'Shea, Jade Potts, Julie Delaney & Niamh Stack, we went in to the half-time break with a 4-07 to 2-07 lead.  However, MKL Gaels had a blistering first 5 minutes in the second half of normal time, scoring 2-04 without reply pushing them in to a 3-point lead before Julie Delaney secured the first point for Dr Crokes in the second half.  Marian O'Callaghan was introduced and scored a badly needed goal to bring us back in to the game.  Our defenders were working tirelessly, challenging everything, but MKL combined for some super scores and we found ourselves 4 points down with time running out.  Kate Stack scored a lovely point from play to give us a little bit of hope and after the kick-out we re-gained possession back on our own half back line for one last attack.  Rheanne O'Shea took it on, heading up along the stand side kicking in to the dressing room goal, and getting by her defender comfortably, saw her opportunity and calmly lobbed the goalie from distance to put the game in to extra time.

Both teams were tiring in the heat and both had lost players to injuries at this point but Siobhán Burns and Emma Dineen were two players who seemed to find that bit of energy in extra time, running at the defence and scoring 2 vital points each.  Kate Stack made sure of her 2 frees in this period and with Marian O'Callaghan & Rheanne O'Shea adding to the total, our girls just managed to get over the line with a historic 2-point victory.  Congratulations to Captain Kayleigh Cronin, the whole panel and management team. Commiserations to MKL Gaels on a day when it was difficult for any side to lose.

The girls now progress to the Munster Championship, facing the Clare victors on the weekend of 4 October.
