Club Notes Week 38 2021   20/09/2021

CO. JUNIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP Dr. Crokes B 1-18 Causeway C 3-13. We played Causeway at Caherslee, Tralee on Sunday at noon in the Kerry Junior Hurling Final.

Weakened by the combined absence of some players due to a combination of injuries and suspension our second team got off to a slow start in the first half of this game and were six points behind at half time on a scoreline of Causeway 2.09 to Dr Crokes 1.06

The second half was to tell a different story and our lads steadily reduced the lead after going eight points down early in the half. With time running out and in injury time we had reduced the deficit to a single point but the clock beat us and when the final whistle sounded Causeway were winners by that one point.

Our second team can be proud of their season, having reached both the League and Championship finals. Who would have dreamed a few short years ago that we could field two adult hurling teams? We can only get stronger in the future and our next assignment is the North Kerry Senior Hurling Championship Our first team will compete in it and it looks certain that several members of our defeated second team will be called into that squad.

SENIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP Dr. Crokes 2-22 Spa 2-10 we opened our campaign with victory over neighbours Spa on Sunday last. Early exchanges were keenly contested with a Miceal Burns goal in the eight minute giving us a slight advantage, We looked to be coasting when in the 27th minutes a Spa goal brought them back into contention. We led at the half-time whistle 1-09 to 1-05. On the resumption we began to up the stakes with Miceal Burns and Tony Brosnan in great form . A second Spa goal kept them in touch approaching end of third quarter with a long delivery from Mark O`Shea ended up in the net finished the game as a contest.

great to see championship debuts for Jason Kerins & Tom Doyle.

We now play Templenoe (A) on Sat. next @ 5pm.

MINOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP, On Saturday last our minor team began their County Championship campaign with the first group game, a very difficult fixture away to West Kerry in Lispole. Following on from a reasonable successful league campaign we hoped to be competitive in a competition which historically favours divisional board teams.

We began the game well and our better teamwork was paying dividends, however where we were creating chances, we didn’t finish as good as we normally can. Playing against the wind may have had a bearing on some of our misses.

Our running came was causing the opposition a number of problems and Robbie Harnett, Alex Hennigan Maidhci Lynch and Charlie Keating were leading the charge at this point. Our inside line of Dara o Shea, Cillian Courtney & Conal Gallagher were causing serious problems for the West and unselfish play was a leader to the chances being created. HT Dr Crokes 1-06 WK 0-05

Where the bigger West Kerry players were pressing our kick outs, Shay o Meara was very precise and accurate in picking our guys out. He also made a number of quality saves during the game. Our defence were standing strong, particularly Liam Sheahan, Paddy Foley & Teddy Muldoon.

We began the second half on the front foot and started taking better scoring options. Being pushed on by Sean Fitzgerald, Cormac o Donoghue, Nathaniel Doncel and TJ o Sullivan we opened a gap we would not relinquish. We optimised our team play in the final quarter with some superb scores Shane McAllister, Mark Sheahan , Cathal Kelly & Neil o Carroll contributed to a great day for the team. Next fixture is Saturday next at home to Austin Stacks at 3pm .

We wish Liam Sheehan a speedy recovery following an unfortunate accident.

U9s: We hosted Glenbeigh Glencar on Sunday morning. We had three teams in action and we had three exciting games against our visitor. We had some rain showers; which we hadnt seen for a while but that didnt dampen any enthusiasm. Its great to see such noticable improvement in all our players the more games they play. Their hard work is paying off but the most important thing is they enjoyed their morning. Thanks to Glenbeigh for travelling.

Communion & Confirmation  Congratulations to all academy members who made their communion  and confirmation in the last few weeks. Good luck to everyone who will receive communion and confirmation  in the coming weeks.

LGFA Our Senior Ladies game v Kilcummin did not take place on Sunday last due to no referee turning up. this is an unacceptable situation with girls coming home from college necessitating travel expense, and other having to change work commitments. Something the powers that be will have to to take a serious look at.

Dr Crokes U16 GIRLS played the Div 2 final of the County League on Tuesday evening last against Abbeydorney, at Ballyrickard, Tralee.  Dr Crokes had a very slow start to the game and found themselves down 2-4 to no score in the first 10 minutes. They slowly got into the game but were still down by at 9 points half time on a scoreline of 3-6 to 1-3.

DR Crokes girls upped the performance in the second half and turned the game around completely. Crokes managed to bring it back to a single point with 10 minutes to go. It was a nail-biting finish but unfortunately it wasn’t our night and Abbeydorney held out to win the game by three points.

FINAL SCORE Dr Crokes 3-6, Abbeydorney 3-9.

Although disappointed with the loss each and every player should take get pride in the commitment and determination they showed right to the end . Our young ladies did themselves, their club and their families proud. A fantastic team and no doubt their day will come again.

Well done to all players and to the management team of Brendan, Jason & Teresa.

Our u13 girls travelled to neighbours Spa on Wed evening last for the quarter final of Group D in the County Championship, and came out with a 2-point victory. An exciting game, in which all of our girls worked hard to combine for a fabulous team performance.  Congrats to the girls & their managers Catherine & Padraig.

Dr Crokes U15 Girls started their championship on Sunday last with an away game to Moyvane. It was always going to be a tough game against a good Moyvane team.  Dr Crokes girls played an excellent first half and went into half time with a good lead. Our girls were playing against the wind in the second half and Moyvane upped their game. Nevertheless Dr Crokes girls kept working hard throughout the field and came out with a well earned victory. FINAL SCORE Dr Crokes 9-6, Moyvane 5-13.
