Club Notes Week 39 2022   03/10/2022

LGFA Intermediate Championship Final Dr. Crokes 1-10 Scartaglin 1-06. Our senior ladies team will be joining out senior men’s team and our senior hurlers in the senior ranks next season after a hard fought battle in the Fitzgearld Stadium on Sunday last. Scartaglin started with all the luck on their side with a Shauna Tangney goal in the first quarter of play leaving the scores 0-01 to 1-01. Our girls refused to give up and pushed on even stronger with 3 points in a row, one each from Rheanne O’Shea, Kate Stack and Lara Hoare. Our number 1 Jessica Leahy, did well under high balls to ensure our 2 point lead at half time 0-07 to 1-02.

The girls were never going to give up their well-earned lead in the second half. The turning point of the game was in the third quarter when Kate Stack found the back of the Scartaglin net. We now face Limerick Champions Monagea in the Munster IFC quarter final next weekend.

East Kerry Minor Championship Dr. Crokes 1-11 Kilcummin 0-09. Our minor team fought off a very defensive Kilcummin side to reach the East Kerry Championship Final on Sunday last in Kilcummin. In what was a close game throughout between two evenly matched teams, our lads pulled away in the last 10 minutes courtesy of a pure poacher finish from 15 year old Liam Hennigan after great approach play from Jack O’Sullivan. The first half saw some great defending from both sides coupled with some poor shot selection and wayward kicking. Teams retired at the half 3 points apiece, the highlight being a peach of a score from Cian Mulcahy. The second half saw a big step up in quality from both sides with some fine scores. The introduction of Alex Hennigan, recovering from injury, was a trump card for Crokes, at a time when the game had opened up in the second half. Crokes defended excellently throughout and were much improved going forward in the second half. This panel of players had made huge improvements this year and finished with 4 under 15s who all played brilliant. A special mention must be made to Brian Titus who was outstanding from start to finish. We not face Kenmare in the East Kerry Final.
