Club Notes Week 23 2023   12/06/2023

SFL Div. 1 Dr. Crokes 0:13 Dingle 0:07. Our senior team claimed another 2 points after a hard-fought victory over Dingle away on Sunday last. Playing with a strong wind in the first half, Mikey Casey opened our scoring with a fine point from play from the throw in. The first half saw a lot of wides for both teams which had been dictated by a gale force wind. We led 4 points to 2 points midway through the half. A scuffle 20 minutes in saw both teams reduced to 13 men. We made the most of the first half wind and went in leading 0:08 to 0:03 at half time. Some fantastic second half points from Billy Courtney and Mikey Casey kept us tipping away nicely throughout the half. Gavin O’Shea did very well to deny Dingle a goal with 4 minutes remaining having cleared a low ball from the goal line. We were unlucky not to add the maximum to our own tally one minute later after Jack O’Sullivan’s effort on goal hit the post and bounced back into the hands of Mikey Casey where he added another point to his name. Next up is Castleisland Desmonds at home on June 25th.

SHL Div. 3 Final Dr. Crokes 2:07 St. Brendan’s 1:06. Our second team claimed silverware after an extremely hard-fought victory over St. Brendan’s in Lewis Road. We started the better and stretched into a 4 point to no score lead after 24 minutes. Mike Milner with two along with Aaron Murphy and Declan Kelly rolling back the years with a fine effort. Brendan’s rallied well and score 3 unanswered points to go in trailing by 1 at the break, 4 points to 3. Although it was a low scoring encounter, the game was full of drama and excitement until the end. A fine goal by St. Brendan’s in the 43rd minute but the visitors ahead for the first time. 2 minutes later, Aaron Murphy got the ball on the 45, beat 3 defenders and buried the ball into the back of the net. It was a tense end with St. Brendan’s winning a free 25 yards out and all 15 Crokes players behind the ball. 3 or 4 attempts were made at goal, but the Crokes players did all they could to keep the ball out. Next up is the South Kerry Championship.
