Club Notes Week 25 2023   26/06/2023

SFL Div. 1 Dr. Crokes 1:16 Castleisland Desmonds 1:07. Another win for our senior team in the SFL means that we now sit on the top of the Div. 1 table going into the last round of games. We didn’t have the most ideal start with Alex Hennigan being replaced after just 2 minutes having picked up an injury early on. A Daithi Casey goal two minutes later put us in a comfortable position early on. Points from Billy Courtney, Daithi Casey, Mikey Casey, Mark O’Shea and Brendan Coppinger gave us an 8-point lead at half time. Half time Dr. Crokes 1:09 Desmonds 0:04. The second half opened with a Desmonds point from play before Mikey Casey replied at the other end of the field. In all we had 7 different scorers with Mikey Casey in top form, scoring 6 of our 16 points. Our final game of the SFL will take place on the weekend of July 8th/9th away to Miltown Castlemaine.

SHC Rd. 2 Dr. Crokes 1:15 Crotta O’Neills 4:28. Our senior hurlers suffered a heavy defeat in Austin Stack Park on Saturday last. Charlie Keating opening the scoring in the 2nd minute. Our early lead was however short lived when Shane Nolan replied with the maximum in the 4th minute. A first half hat-trick from Shane Nolan meant that it was always going to be a tough task. The Crokes boys worked very well in all areas of the pitch, and we were finally rewarded with our own maximum when Charlie Keating found the back of the net leaving the half time score 1:06 to 3:14. The second half saw our opponents putting on an exhibition of hurling scoring 1:14 throughout the half. They deserved their victory in the end and march on to the next stage of the Championship.

SFL Div. 4 Dr. Crokes 0: 14 Keel 2:12. Our second team suffered a 4-point defeat when they welcomed Keel to Lewis Road on Sunday. The game was closely contested from the get go. A goal in the 20th minute of play meant that the visitors went in leading at half time on a score line of 0:05 to 1:04. The second half started the same as the first with some well taken points from both teams. Once again Keel were rewarded with the maximum when a high ball rattled our defenders and then rattled the back of the Crokes net. We trailed by just 2 in injury time but no matter how hard we tried, we just couldn’t find the back of the net. We now face St. Michaels Filmore in our final game of the SFL.
