Club Notes Week 10 2024   12/03/2024

SHL Dr. Crokes 0:08 Ballyduff 3:20. Our start to the 2024 County League was doused in a baptism of fire. Playing away to a very strong Ballyduff team, we were comprehensively beaten on the scoreboard which isn't a true and accurate reflection of the game. Featuring a number of debutants to Senior Hurling, we traded parity with the hosts in the first half and competed equally for possession. While Ballyduff did assert themselves as the half wore on, only four points separated the teams at the interval. On the resumption, Ballyduff went straight for the jugular with a brilliantly taken goal, coming after only 60 seconds. Reeling from Ballyduff's restart we shipped a succession of scores, including another superbly taken goal by one of Kerry's U20 stars. We refused to give up and every player battled vigorously and determinedly for every ball. As is often the case in hurling encounters, it was only in the last 10 minutes that the gap broadened into a chasm and it has to be said that the home team played brilliant a brand of fast, direct hurling. Featuring six U20 Kerry players, this is certainly a team to watch out for in the future. Our boys can take encouragement and heart from the spirit shown by the players and the marksmanship of Mark Heffernan who scored all 8 of our points. He was ably assisted by Cathal White, playing in front of his erstwhile home crowd, and Dave Carroll who mixed panache with pugnacity in a tigerish display. Next up is Ballyheigue on St. Patrick's Day at 12pm in Lewis Road.
