SNR CO. LGE - DIV. 5: Dr. Crokes defeated Duagh in a sun-soaked Lewis Road on Sunday last in the Credit Union County Football League Division 5. This game got off to a quick start with both teams evenly match for the first 5 minutes. Laurence Burns opened scoring on the second minute with a well taken point. Bryan O’Shea and Keith O’Leary added two further points before Duagh opened their account with a point. Our mid-field pairing of Andrew Kenneally and James Jones contested every Duagh kick-out and, as a result, Duagh found it difficult to break into the our half of the field. We constantly threatened the Duagh goal, a blast from James Jones curling right and wide. Shortly after, a great pass by Chris Brady saw Tony Brosnan find the Duagh net. Half-time score: Dr. Crokes 1-10, Duagh 0-01. Duagh missed good scoring opportunities in the second half. We continued in our scoring ways with points from Andrew Kenneally, Chris Brady and Tony Brosnan. It was clear we were the fitter side and we pushed home with 5 minutes to go. Late into injury time, Chris Brady sealed victory with a goal and followed it up with a well taken free. Full-time: Dr. Crokes 2-21, Duagh 0-08.

SNR CO. LGE - DIV. 1: We jumped back to the top of Division 1 of Credit Union Co. League with a victory over Currow in a back game on Friday last. Crokes led at the break 0-10 to 0-04 thanks to 6 first half points from Brian Looney. Eoin Brosnan opened the scoring in the first minute and further points from Bryan O`Shea and Jamie Doolan pushed us ahead, Looney with his opening score in the 8th minute. Currow opened their account in the 14th minute with a point. Two further points from Looney before Currow noted their second in the 19th minute. A further brace from Looney stretched our advantage. Currow narrowed the gap with 2 more points. Tony Brosnan completed the first half scoring with a point before the break. On the resumption, Seamus Scanlon, who was the outstanding player on view, narrowed the gap but 5 unanswered points from Crokes courtesy of Brosnan, O`Sullivan, Doolan, Looney & O`Shea stretched our advantage after the opening 10 minutes to leave us leading 0-15 to 0-05. Currow breached the Crokes defence to find the net in the 13th minute but further points from Looney (2), Brosnan and O`Shea stretched our lead. Currow tacked on 4 points in the final 10 minutes but to no avail and we ran out comfortable winners on a 0-19 to 1-09 scoreline.

SENIOR C'SHIP: This game will live long in the memory of the big local crowd privileged to witness it as two very evenly matched sides went head to head in the last eight of the championship. Legion kicked off into a four point lead but we pulled back. It was then a ding dong battle with really great finishing by both sides. Johnny Buckley led the Crokes fightback with a good score and two from Daithí Casy frees and another from Shane Doolan had the sides level by the 21st minute. Kieran O’Leary and Chris Brady had good scores for Crokes before James O’Donoghue stopped the Crokes scoring spree with a great score from distance. O’Leary and Keane swapped points and the sides went in on level terms at the break, 8 points all. Ambrose O’Donovan was introduced by Crokes on the resumption but Johnny Buckley caught the throw in and put Crokes ahead. David O’Sullivan had two points for Legion either side of another from Chris Brady and the sides were deadlocked once again after just four minutes of the new half. Jamie Doolan and Daithi Casey then put Crokes two clear but as the game went from end to end another from Keane and a free from O’Donoghue had the sides all square once more. Both sides had missed opportunities around the three quarter stage but Kieran O’Leary found the range in the 50th minute. Legion were finding it difficult to get O’Donoghue on the ball but David O’Sullivan pointed a free after a foul on Keane and then Daithi Casey and Damien O’Sullivan swapped points to have stalemate once again with two minutes remaining. James O’Donoghue cut in from the right and fisted over the lead in the 59th minute but sub Micheál Burns tied the scores once more mere seconds later. Again Legion came in search of the lead and Tom Moriarty cut in from the right to fist over the bar for the crucial score of the game on the 30th minute. From the kickout there was a hop ball in the middle of the field, Legion won it and got a free which Conor Keane kicked between the posts from 45 yards. Legion held out to record a famous victory over their closest rivals.

EK MINOR LGE: We hosted Killarney Legion on Thursday last in the East Kerry Minor Football League. This game got off to a blistering start when the visitors maintained possession early and worked the ball up for an early goal. We responded with a point from Michael Casey and shortly after, Chris Doncel was fouled in the square resulting in a penalty. Adam O’Shea converted from the spot to take the lead. We consistently threatened the Legion goal for the half. Paul Clarke broke through for a well taken goal which was followed 10 minutes later by another from Mark O’Shea. Before the end of the half, both Paul Clarke and Mark O’Sé found the net again to go in at half-time 5-03 to 1-03. We opened the second half in a similar fashion, Shane Lyne striking past Legion’s keeper for our 6th goal. Legion responded with 3 unanswered points but goals were needed. Legion full-back, Daragh Doherty, made the journey up the field to help his team make a come-back but was unlucky after his kick struck the crossbar. Dr. Crokes brought on substitutions which made the difference in the final stages. Final-score: Dr. Crokes 6-06, Legion 1-11.
