EKSL: Dr Crokes 0-12, Currow 0-6. Played in driving rain at Lewis Rd on Sunday 22 February, both teams still served up a competitive, entertaining game. Crokes raced into an early five point lead, within the first ten minutes, thanks to good scores from play by Tony Brosnan,Brian Looney and Mike Milner, adding to pointed frees from Chris Brady and Brosnan. However the home side then failed to score for the next thirty minutes, allowing Currow to close the gap to just one point at halftime, thanks to three fine pointed frees and one from play.Things could have been worse for Crokes with Currow turning down an easy point chance, but just grazing the post with the resultant goal effort in the 25th minute after turning over Crokes possession. Currow did draw level in the 4th minute of the second half but Gavin O'Shea restored Crokes advantage five minutes later, after a good burst up-field by young Aaron Murphy. Both sides then registered points from frees before Crokes pulled away thanks to two points, including a fine 45, from Brian Looney,a pointed free from Tony Brosnan and a good point from play from centre-back Alan O'Sullivan. With Currow pressing for a late consolation goal,Crokes broke upfield through Andrew Kenneally who fed Brian Looney to finish the scoring 0-12 to 0-6 for the home side.
MINOR CO. LEAGUE - DIV. 1: Kerins O'Rahilly 2-11, Dr Crokes 1-7. Dr Crokes Minors started their league campaign with a disappointing defeat away to Kerins O'Rahillys on Saturday 21 February. Despite creating plenty of opportunities, David Shaw in the second minute and Billy Courtney in the twentieth, pointed Crokes only scores of the first half and after a fine Tony Clifford save in the 9th minute, Rahillys eventually goaled in the 13th and lead at halftime 1-3 to 0-2.Jack Griffin had been introduced into Crokes attack just before halftime, immediately adding impetus and almost raised a green flag within a minute of coming on. Rahillys added two further points in the first three minutes of the second half to pull further ahead before points from Paul Clarke and Griffin narrowed the gap. Substitute Michael Potts goaled for Crokes and further points from Adam O'Shea and Shaw brought it back to a one score game but Rahillys added 1-01 in the final moments to deservedly emerge as victors on the day.
