Dr. Crokes Golf Society 2025

Happy 2025 to all members.

Our Golfing season is all set to go for 2025.The good news is we were able to get Waterville again into our calendar for 2025. Please take note of the arrangements for the Waterville outing further down the letter.

So we look forward to a wonderful and enjoyable 2025 golfing year.

Leading the Golf Society in 2025 is Captain Joey Sheehan and President Liam Hartnett.

Captain Joey Sheehan

The Captain leading us out for 2025 is Joey Sheehan. Joey played underage with the Crokes, under mentors Ger Cullinane and Jackie Looney and has fond memories of travelling to blitzes in Buckleys Volkswagon bus all over the county.

Basketball was ultimately his calling and he first played with St. Vincents as a teenager in the 1978/79 season. Due to the vision of another great Crokes man, Paudie O Connor (RIP) who introduced the 1st American player to Irish basketball and from this Joey was introduced to National League basketball winning multiple National League titles. He played along side current society members Brian Clarke and Niall Botty O Callaghan at National League level. He also represented Ireland with the Garda Basketball team.

Joey is a member of the society since the start and is a great supporter of all the outings. An accomplished golfer he has won 5 Captain Prizes, 2 President prizes along with numerous other outings with the society. He is proud to have won the Eddie Barry Memorial Cup 3 times as player of the year. A retired Garda,he is married to Teresa and they have one daughter Robyn.

Joey is quick to remind us that even though he has won many times, he has lost a lot of tenners on the course……

President Liam Hartnett

The President of the society for 2025 is Liam Hartnett. Liam, also known as Bill,is a former playing stalwart of the club and an uncompromising defender who played minor,junior,U21 and senior with Kerry but his greatest day out was starring alongside his 19 other colleagues in claiming the All-Ireland Club Championship in 1992 beating Thomas Davis of Dublin in the final.

His medal haul saw him claim 2 Munster Club in 1990 and 1991,2 County Championships in 1991 and 2000 and won 7 O Donoghue Cups. He also has won every County and East Kerry title at underage level.

He also served as an officer of the club and was part of the senior management team at one stage.

Past Captain of the society and Killarney Golf Club who served on the Golf society committee for over 20 years. He stepped down to coincide with his retirement as Postmaster from Killarney Post Office.

Liam is married to Catherine and they have 2 daughters Niamh and Aisling.
