Weekly Notes 21st of October

Senior Club Championship - Quarter Final
Played in Fitzgerald Stadium
Dr Crokes 1-20 Kenmare Shamrocks 1-12
But for a good last quarter we were in deep trouble to remain in the Championship. For 45 minutes of the game Kenmare Shamrocks more than matched us in all points of the field. It was probably our greater experience that brought us through in the end.
It was nip and tuck right through the first half with the teams matching score for score and ending up at the end of the first thirty minutes a point between the teams, 0-9 for us and 0-8 for our opponents.
Kenmare had two points without reply at the start of the second half to go a point ahead. We equalised in the 37th minute. What could have been the defining moment of the game happened in the 40th minute when our opponents ran through for a goal which seemed a big lead with twenty minutes to go as both teams seemed to be evenly matched up to that. The teams exchanged points in the next five minutes. It looked a mountain to climb for us going into the last quarter but we responded to the situation. We scored 1-9 to Kenmares 0-1 in these remaining minutes for a flattering eight-point win.
Some soul searching will have to be done for next weeks semi-final. One could say that we played poorly but that could also be attributed to our opponents do or die spirit. We would, however, have to give credit to our own team for their last quarter display.
Team and Scorers: Shane Murphy, David O'Leary, Mike Moloney, Fionn Fitzgerald, Michael Potts, Gavin White, Brian Looney 0-2, Johnny Buckley, Mark O'Shea 0-1, Micheal Burns 0-2, David Shaw 0-4 (0-2 frees), Gavin O'Shea, Tony Brosnan 0-9 (0-5 frees), Daithi Casey, Kieran O'Leary 1-2.
Subs: Alan O'Sullivan, Paul Clarke, Jordan Kiely, David Naughton, Cillian O'Regan, Brendan Falvey.
