Club Notes Week 19 2025

SFL Div.1 Dr. Crokes 2:18 Laune Rangers 0:06. We delivered a dominant performance against Laune Rangers away to secure a comprehensive 18-point win. Two Maidhcí Lynch points and one each from Alex Hennigan and Gavin O’Shea helped to give us an early lead. Defensively, David Naughton and Cillian Fitzgerald stood up with some fantastic interceptions. Shane Murphy pulled off a fantastic save in the 15th minute to deny a Laune Rangers goal. Mikey Caseys goal in the 20th minute gave us a healthy lead after a well worked move. Half time Dr. Crokes 1:08 Laune Rangers 0:05. The second half was all Crokes. Billy Courtney, Gavin O’Shea and Alex Hennigan led the charge with a flurry of points early on. Cillian Fitzgerald continued to impress with another key interception, followed by another excellent save from Shane Murphy. A second goal came from Cian McMahon after a brilliant passing move. Club Notes Week 17 2025

SFL Div.1 Dr. Crokes 1:13 Kerins O’Rahillys 1:14. A lively encounter with Kerins O’Rahillys served up plenty of drama, scores and cards. It was the Tralee side that opened the scoring in the 3rd minute before the impressive David Shaw struck a 2 pointer on 5 minutes. minutes later Mikey Casey created a goal chance, but Cian McMahon was unlucky to send the ball over the bar for a point. A David Shaw point and a Billy Courtney 2 pointer kept the scoreboard ticking over just before the interval. Half time Dr. Crokes 0:08 Kerins O’Rahillys 0:04. David Shaw opened the second half with a free. Momentum swung in favour of our opposition, who added a point and a 2 pointer in a number of minutes. Alex Hennigan was then taken down inside the box, resulting in a penalty which he coolly converted. Rahillys quickly responded with a 2 pointer before capitalising on a lapse in our defense, firing the ball passed Kacper Robak for a crucial goal. David Shaw, Billy Courtney and Alex Hennigan all notched up late scores. We were unlucky not to hit the back of the net after a missed goal chance, that came off the post, along with several wides in the closing stages.

Club Notes Week 16 2025

SFL Div. 5 Dr. Crokes 0:24 Lispole 2:10. Our B side continued their unbeaten start to County League Division 5 with a well-deserved away win against an experienced Lispole side. We played against a strong breeze and went in at half time level 0-11 to 2-5. Lispole has used the long direct ball in the first half, and it caused plenty of difficulties for us but when we got to grips with this we settled down and played some very good football. Dara O Shea was the scorer in chief from play and frees. Aided by the elements in the second half we pulled clear with some great scores by Neil O Carroll, Aodhan Burns, Jack O Sullivan and Cian O Neill. Our defence was superbly marshalled by Sean Coppinger and Aaron Murphy. Our next game is next Saturday night at home v St Michael’s Foilmore.

Club Notes Week 14 2025

SFL Div. 5 Dr Crokes B 3-19 Kilgarvan 0-10. Our B side continued their unbeaten start to their County League campaign with a convincing win against a young Kilgarvan side. Aided by some additions to the team due to our A side not playing this weekend, we played against a strong wind in the first half and led by 8 at half time. Alex Hennigan and Mikey Casey both showed their senior experience to build up the lead and Erin Moloney’s direct running caused Kilgarvan’s defence plenty of trouble. We extended our lead in the second half helped with the wind and added two more goals, the first a penalty from Alex Hennigan and the second from Lorcan Martin. Our next game is against Lispole away over the Easter weekend.
LGFA Donal Curtin Cup Our senior ladies travelled to Scartaglen for Round 3 of the Donal Curtin Cup. Playing with the aid of a very strong wind, Scartaglen scored a goal in the opening minute and went into an early six-point lead. We gradually grew into the game with Christine Cooper, Megann Kiely and Rocha Clifford carrying the ball well into the breeze and Seodhna O Donoghue and Ava Sheehan showing well in the forwards. However, a second Scartaglen goal just before half time and the loss of Ava Sheehan and Liz Moloney to injury were a big blow. Despite great work from Casey O Donoghue, Ali O Donoghue and Annie Brosnan in the second half we couldn’t make inroads on the scoreboard with Scartaglen proving too strong on the day. Next up is another away trip to Southern Gaels next weekend. We would like to wish Kayleigh Cronin,  Laura O Shea and the Kerry team the best of luck in the League Final next Saturday. Also best of luck to Leah Mc Mahon, Rheanne O Shea, James Fleming and the St Paul’s Basketball  team  in Sundays Super League final.

Club Notes Week 13 2025

SFL Div. 1 Dr. Crokes 0:14 Rathmore 3:07. It was always going to be a tough weekend, fielding 3 senior teams on the same day, while also being down a number of players due to county commitments and injury. We started brightly, getting on the scoreboard within the first 30 seconds thanks to a well taken point by David Shaw. David Shaw Struck again in the 9th minute to double his tally, but soon after Rathmore capitalised on a high ball into the square, leading to their first goal of the game. Despite this, we continued to push forward, with several attacks leading to missed opportunities. A 45 from Billy Courtney in the 20th minute kept us in touch. Alex Hennigan converted a crucial point at the end of the first half to leave us trail 0:05 to 1:04 at the break. The second half started with a flurry of action, with Rathmore extending their lead early on. Alex Hennigan quickly responded with a well taken point before Billy Courtney added the first 2 pointer of the game to the scoreboard. The game remained fairly balanced with both teams exchanging scores. Two crucial Rathmore goals in the 49th and 50th minutes meant that we had to work harder to reduce the deficit. A Brian Looney point and a Billy Courtney 2 pointer closed the gap to just two points. This however was a little too late and it was Rathmore who took the points.

LGFA Div. 1 Dr. Crokes 1:16 Rathmore 0:04. Our senior ladies also faced Rathmore this weekend. It was fantastic to see Kayleigh Cronin lining out in midfield despite playing in a tough game against Dublin the previous day. In what could be her last appearance in a Dr. Crokes Jersey for the foreseeable future, Kayleigh led from the front, putting in numerous tackles and interceptions and providing a solid link between defense and attack while also chipping in with a point. In a very good team performance, we had 9 different scorers, including points from Seodhna O’Donoghue, Holly Power, Selina Collins, Ava Sheehan, Casey O’Donoghue, Treasa O’Sullivan and a goal from Julie Delaney. Goalkeeper Jess Leahy pulled off a number of great saves and some excellent defensive play from Rocha Clifford, Christine Cooper and Lillie Foley saw us run put comfortable winner. Next up is Scartaglen next Sunday.

Club Notes Week 12 2025

LGFA Div. 1 Dr. Crokes 1:11 Cromane 1:10. Our senior ladies got their season off to a winning start with a narrow win over a lively Cromane team in the first round of the Donal Curtin Cup on Sunday. Playing with the aid of a strong wind, Cromane took a 0.6 to 0.1 lead after 25 minutes. Some strong defending from Megan Kiely and Karena O Leary, both of whom made some outstanding blocks, along with Roisin Doherty, helped to minimise Cromane scores. A Julie Delaney point after a great team move along with a Leah Mc Mahon goal left us just one behind at the break. The second half was just as tight and with Laura O Shea starting to dominate at midfield, well supported by Muireann O Brien, we eventually took the lead after 47 minutes. With just four minutes of normal time remaining, we went behind again to a Cromane goal. However, the outstanding Treasa O Sullivan, fresh from her Giles Cup success last weekend with Mary Immaculate College, kicked three points in a row, bringing her total to seven for the game.

Our minors Kacper Robak and Cian Mulcahy also made their senior debuts. They were joined by Adam Byrne in the second half. This team can be satisfied with their performance but special mention to our chief scorers Dara O’Shea and Cillian Courtney at the front.
