Club Notes Week 17 2024
SFL Div. 1 Dr. Crokes 2:16 Glenflesk 2:06. Our senior footballers remain unbeaten after a comprehensive win over Glenflesk in round 5 of the Senior Football League. Cian McMahon opened the scoring with a fine point from play from the throw in. 1 minute later, Michael Potts was unlucky not to hit the back of the net after two brilliant attempts at goal, Micheal Burns subsequently tipped the rebounding ball over the bar. 4 minutes in to the game Glenflesk were awarded a penalty, that Bryan O’Shea was unlucky not to save. We were awarded our own penalty 14 minutes later when Cian McMahon was brought down in the small square. Daithi Casey did well to convert from the penalty spot. We went in leading 1:11 to 1:02 at the break. We got the second half underway in the best way possible, with a Micheal Burns goal in the first minute. Again, just like the first half, Glenflesk got a second goal of their own in the 18th minute. Bryan O’Shea put on a great performance between post to pull off two more fantastic saves in the dying minutes of the game. We now sit at the top of the table going in to round 6. Next up is Ballymacelligott away on May 5th.

Club Notes Week 15 2024
LGFA Our Senior Ladies played their second game of the Dr. Curtin Cup with an away trip to Corca Dhuibhne on Sunday. Playing with the aid of a gale force wind in the first half, we settled quickly and goals from Kate Stack, Siobhan Burns, Laura O Shea and Niamh Stack saw us build up a strong half time lead. A great team performance in the second half saw us overturn a number of attacks from our opponents with some strong defending in all areas of the field. With Sarah Cooper adding another goal, we finished winners on a scoreline of 5.11 to 2.3. Next up is an away trip to Scartaglen next Sunday.

Club Notes Week 13 2024
SHL Tralee Parnells 1-18 Dr. Crokes 1-9. While this was our third successive defeat we raised our performance levels both in terms of commitment and intensity. Colm O’Cuiv struck the right note from the very off with a monstrous point from the middle of the park. It was nip and tuck between the two teams throughout a hectic first half. Deputising for the injured Mark Hefferrnan, Davy Carroll pilfered four points from frees. His tally was added to by a marauding Conor O’Hare who repeatingly drove at the Parnells’ defence. Alas, tragedy struck on the stroke of half time when the hosts goaled from a very fortuitous free. This score came against the run of play and left us trailing by two points at the break. Worse was to follow when illness forced Conor O’Hare to retire before the resumption. Facing an uphill struggle we remained on our opponents coattails and looked like springing a surprise when Davy Carroll drilled a free to the top corner of the net. However, Parnells deeper panel, not to mention their three County players, gradually swung the balance in their favour. It should be noted for the record that while Parnells were able to draw on all their resources we were denied the services of our County players but that is not to take from the wholehearted contribution of those who lined out. Our next fixture is on Friday 12th of April at home to Abbeydorney.

Club Notes Week 10 2024
SHL Dr. Crokes 0:08 Ballyduff 3:20. Our start to the 2024 County League was doused in a baptism of fire. Playing away to a very strong Ballyduff team, we were comprehensively beaten on the scoreboard which isn’t a true and accurate reflection of the game. Featuring a number of debutants to Senior Hurling, we traded parity with the hosts in the first half and competed equally for possession. While Ballyduff did assert themselves as the half wore on, only four points separated the teams at the interval. On the resumption, Ballyduff went straight for the jugular with a brilliantly taken goal, coming after only 60 seconds. Reeling from Ballyduff’s restart we shipped a succession of scores, including another superbly taken goal by one of Kerry’s U20 stars. We refused to give up and every player battled vigorously and determinedly for every ball. As is often the case in hurling encounters, it was only in the last 10 minutes that the gap broadened into a chasm and it has to be said that the home team played brilliant a brand of fast, direct hurling. Featuring six U20 Kerry players, this is certainly a team to watch out for in the future. Our boys can take encouragement and heart from the spirit shown by the players and the marksmanship of Mark Heffernan who scored all 8 of our points. He was ably assisted by Cathal White, playing in front of his erstwhile home crowd, and Dave Carroll who mixed panache with pugnacity in a tigerish display. Next up is Ballyheigue on St. Patrick’s Day at 12pm in Lewis Road.
