Club Notes Week 25 2024

LGFA Our Senior Ladies hosted Southern Gaels in the semi-final of the Donal Curtin Cup on Monday last. We lined out without a large number of players due to injury, holidays and weddings. We got off to a great start with Kate Stack, scoring a goal followed by a point from Aoife O’Donoghue. Kate Stack, who was well supported by Sarah Cooper and Ava Sheehan, added a further two points. Strong defending from Karena O’Leary, Lillie Foley, Holly Power, Liz Moloney, Ciara Brannock and Casey O’Donoghue help give us a 1:03 to 0:04 lead at the break. Southern Gaels started the second half strongly, kicking the first four points of the half. However, a point from Amanda Brosnan, along with a great save from Jess Leahy kept us in touch. Our opponents kicked further points but some great attacking play by Laura O’Shea, Selina Collins, Christine Cooper and Muireann O’Brien led to the point from Amanda Brosnan to leave just a goal in it. Despite laying siege in the last few minutes, we just couldn’t score the important goal to equalize. Next up is the league which begins on July 15th.

Club Notes Week 17 2024

SFL Div. 1 Dr. Crokes 2:16 Glenflesk 2:06. Our senior footballers remain unbeaten after a comprehensive win over Glenflesk in round 5 of the Senior Football League. Cian McMahon opened the scoring with a fine point from play from the throw in. 1 minute later, Michael Potts was unlucky not to hit the back of the net after two brilliant attempts at goal, Micheal Burns subsequently tipped the rebounding ball over the bar. 4 minutes in to the game Glenflesk were awarded a penalty, that Bryan O’Shea was unlucky not to save. We were awarded our own penalty 14 minutes later when Cian McMahon was brought down in the small square. Daithi Casey did well to convert from the penalty spot. We went in leading 1:11 to 1:02 at the break. We got the second half underway in the best way possible, with a Micheal Burns goal in the first minute. Again, just like the first half, Glenflesk got a second goal of their own in the 18th minute. Bryan O’Shea put on a great performance between post to pull off two more fantastic saves in the dying minutes of the game. We now sit at the top of the table going in to round 6. Next up is Ballymacelligott away on May 5th.

Club Notes Week 16 2024

SFL Dr. Crokes 2:13 An Ghaeltacht 0:08. Our senior footballers put on a fine display of football in round 3 of the SFL away to An Ghaeltacht on Sunday last. A team mixed with youth and experience went in at the break leading 1:06 to 4 points.  Goals coming from Michael Burns and a Daithi Casey penalty helped give us a comprehensive win over our West Kerry opponents. Next up we have Glenflesk at home on Sunday 28th April.

SHL Dr. Crokes 0:14 Crotta O’Neills 2:21. The darkest hour is just before the Dawn and so it was when we hosted the reigning County Champions in Lewis Road last Friday night. The first half of this County League Fixture does not bear much discussion other than to say it was a severe mauling for the homeside. However, we emerged for the second half a team transformed. Right from the resumption the boys in Black and Amber set about their task with vigour and determination, personified by Nathaniel Doncel who led imperiously from the back. He was supported in his efforts by fellow defenders Conor Murphy and James Murphy.  Upfront the ageless Kevin Landers and Davy Carroll led the line. Having failed miserably to mount any sort of a challenge in the opening half, we blitzed our opponents with a succession of marvellous points. The last ten minutes was pure champagne hurling featuring some outstanding team scores as our boys showed an aptitude and skill not previously seen this Season. While this was another defeat the second half performance offers hope and encouragement for the road ahead. Our next fixture is away to St. Brendans in Arfert on Friday the 26th of April.  Throw in 7pm.

Club Notes Week 15 2024

LGFA Our Senior Ladies played their second game of the Dr. Curtin Cup with an away trip to Corca Dhuibhne on Sunday. Playing with the aid of a gale force wind in the first half, we settled quickly and goals from Kate Stack, Siobhan Burns, Laura O Shea and Niamh Stack saw us build up a strong half time lead. A great team performance in the second half saw us overturn a number of attacks from our opponents with some strong defending in all areas of the field. With Sarah Cooper adding another goal, we finished winners on a scoreline of 5.11 to 2.3. Next up is an away trip to Scartaglen next Sunday.

Micheal Burns got things underway in the 3rd minute with a lovely point from play before Kilcummin’s number 11 responded 5 minutes later. A low scoring first half saw pints from Micheal Burns, Mark O’Shea, Kieran O’Leary and Billy Courtney to give us a 5 points to 2 points lead at half time. The second half was opened with two fantastic scores from Billy Courtney. Our opponents worked well and scored the next 3 points from play. In a good team performance we ran out 5 point winners. Club Notes Week 13 2024

SHL Tralee Parnells 1-18  Dr. Crokes 1-9. While this was our third successive defeat we raised our performance levels both in terms of commitment and intensity. Colm O’Cuiv struck the right note from the very off with a monstrous point from the middle of the park. It was nip and tuck between the two teams throughout a hectic first half. Deputising for the injured Mark Hefferrnan, Davy Carroll pilfered four points from frees.  His tally was added to by a marauding Conor O’Hare who repeatingly drove at the Parnells’ defence. Alas, tragedy struck on the stroke of half time when the hosts goaled from a very fortuitous free. This score came against the run of play and left us trailing by two points at the break. Worse was to follow when illness forced Conor O’Hare to retire before the resumption.  Facing an uphill struggle we remained on our opponents coattails and looked like springing a surprise when Davy Carroll drilled a free to the top corner of the net. However, Parnells deeper panel, not to mention their three County players, gradually swung the balance in their favour.  It should be noted for the record that while Parnells were able to draw on all their resources we were denied the services of our County players but that is not to take from the wholehearted contribution of those who lined out. Our next fixture is on Friday 12th of April at home to Abbeydorney.
