Donal Curtin Cup Final Dr Crokes senior ladies made history on Monday last when they competed in the Division 1 Donal Curtin Cup for the first time ever. We were dealt an early blow with the loss of the ever-reliable Liz Moloney through injury after just 6 minutes. The open quarter was a cagey affair with both teams making several errors and it took until the 14th minute for Amanda Brosnan to open the scoring, soon followed by a pointed free from Rheanne O’Shea. Na Gael opened their scoring with a goal after 17 minutes but they were finding it difficult to breakthrough our defence, led by Karena O’Leary, Megann Kiely and Siobhan Burns. Further points from Treasa O Sullivan, Amanda Brosnan, Siobhan Burns and Rheanne O Shea and a great finish to the net from Seodhna O Donoghue, saw us lead by 1.7 to 1.1 approaching half time. However, a second Na Gael goal just before half team saw us lead by just three at the break. Na Gael reduced the deficit to 2 points shortly after the restart but we quickly settled and Lillie Foley, Ali O Donoghue and Siofra Randles defended superbly, making some crucial tackles and turnovers. A brilliantly worked team move which started with goalkeeper Ava Sheehan, who was outstanding throughout, worked its way up to Leah Mc Mahon who finished to the net. Then came the score of the game. Christine Cooper took possession on our own 45 metre line and weaved through the Na Gael defence, shaking off several tackles, before unleashing an unstoppable shot to the bottom left hand corner of the net, giving us a 3.8 to 1.3 lead. With Julie Delaney and Casey O Donoghue linking well between defence and attack, we closed out the game with further scores from Amanda Brosnan, leading to a first ever division 1 ladies title at senior level. In her winning speech, captain Siobhan Burns passed on thoughts and sympathies to the family of the late Isabelle O Callaghan.

SFL Div. 5 Dr. Crokes 4:24 Valentia 1:12. We made the long trip to Valentia and our B side put in another good performance. Goals from Brendan Coppinger, Dara O’Shea, Aodhan Burns and Liam Kelleher helped us to another win which keeps us top of the table before our final two games against Asdee and Austin Stacks.

Club Notes Week 22 2025

SFL Div. 5 Our B side continued their impressive form in division 5 of the County League with a comprehensive win against Gneeveguilla B. This result means that we have secured promotion to division 4 for next season but all focus will now be on trying to win the league title. Fielding a strong team we played with the elements and three first half goals by Liam Kelleher, Brendan Falvey and Aodhan Burns aided by some fine two pointers by Dara O Shea meant that we went in at half time with a healthy lead. We were never threatened in the second half and the players deserve a lot of credit for the manner in which they have played all year long. Next up is a long trip to Valentia next weekend to play the Islanders in a back game.

LGFA U10 Our U10 girls took part in the LGFA U10 Activity Day in Croke Park on the Monday of the June Bank Holiday. Parents, mentors and spectators were treated to some brilliant football, all 20 Crokes girls gave it their all on the hallowed turf and played terrific. They did their club, families and themselves proud. Crokes were one of 2 teams selected to represent Kerry for the day with teams from the 32 counties participating. All clubs had a panel of 20 players, with everyone having the opportunity to play in four mini-Go Games throughout a morning or afternoon session.

Club Notes Week 21 2025

SHL Div. 2 Final Dr. Crokes 1:15, Lady’s Walk 1:12. Our Senior Hurlers claimed the Credit Union County Hurling League Division 2 title after a gruelling encounter against a determined Lady’s Walk side, requiring extra-time in difficult conditions in Fitzgerald Stadium on Monday afternoon. Following consistent, winning performances throughout the League, they overcame Abbeydorney in the Semi-Final in Lewis Road last week, with extra-time required to separate the sides. Full-time (AET) score: Dr. Crokes 2-12, Abbeydorney 0-16. Fitzgerald Stadium was the venue for the County Final on Monday afternoon which again went to extra-time against a resolute Lady’s Walk side. Grit, determination and a fantastic team performance with brilliant displays by Kieran O’Connor, Conor O’Hare and Willie Allen as well as young guns Adam Byrne, Henry Walsh and Fionn Dineen ensured the Crokes secured a hard fought victory after extra time.
 
LGFA Donal Curtin Cup Dr Crokes senior ladies welcomed Na Gaeil to Lewis Road in Round 5 of the Donal Curtin Cup. With just one defeat, Na Gaeil were top of the table and they got off to a great start with 1:02 inside the first four minutes. However, we quickly settled and led by the returning Leah McMahon and Rheanne O’Shea after their exploits with St. Paul’s, as well as a superb goal from Megan Kiely, we led by 6 points at half time. A brilliant save from Jess Leahy and solid defending from Karena O Leary, Rosin Doherty and Liz Moloney saw us build on our lead and run out comfortable winners. We then travelled to Beaufort in a must win game to qualify for the semifinals. With goals from Seodhna O’Donoghue, Christine Cooper, Ava Sheahan and Claudia O’Donoghue as well as a fine second half display in goals by Emily Coleman, we ran out winners on a scoreline of 6:06 to 2:07. All panel members contributed significantly to the two victories and we now play Cromane in an away semifinal on the 23rd June.

Club Notes Week 20 2025

SFL Div.1 Dr. Crokes 0:16 Kilcummin 1:16. A hard fought contest away to Kilcummin saw the home side take a narrow 3-point win. The opening half was evenly matched with both teams trading points. Fionn Fitzgerald made a crucial save in the 19th minute to deny a Kilcummin goal. Points from Tom Doyle and Mikey Casey (2) saw a take the lead at the break, 0:09 to 0:06. Billy Courtney’s accurate two-point kicking helped to keep the score board ticking over. The crucial moment came in the 28th minute when Kilcummin found the back of the net, a blow that proved costly. With seconds left on the clock Billy Coutrney kicked a high ball in around the Kilcummin square however it was a little too late and the referee signed full time. Next up is Legion at home on Friday 6th June.
U21 County Championship Dr. Crokes 0:10 St. Kieran’s 3:15.Our U21 season has come to a close after a dominant performance by St. Kieran’s in Keel on Thursday last. The first half saw both sides struggle to convert chances but it was our opponents who took the lead at the break, 0:03 to 2:04. Charlie Keating was a huge loss in midfield when he went off injured in the 23rd minute. The second half belonged to St. Kieran’s who outscored us 1:11 to 7 points. We added a few scores through Alex Hennigan and Kacper Robak but the accuracy and work rate of our opposition that proved too much.

Club Notes Week 19 2025

SFL Div.1 Dr. Crokes 2:18 Laune Rangers 0:06. We delivered a dominant performance against Laune Rangers away to secure a comprehensive 18-point win. Two Maidhcí Lynch points and one each from Alex Hennigan and Gavin O’Shea helped to give us an early lead. Defensively, David Naughton and Cillian Fitzgerald stood up with some fantastic interceptions. Shane Murphy pulled off a fantastic save in the 15th minute to deny a Laune Rangers goal. Mikey Caseys goal in the 20th minute gave us a healthy lead after a well worked move. Half time Dr. Crokes 1:08 Laune Rangers 0:05. The second half was all Crokes. Billy Courtney, Gavin O’Shea and Alex Hennigan led the charge with a flurry of points early on. Cillian Fitzgerald continued to impress with another key interception, followed by another excellent save from Shane Murphy. A second goal came from Cian McMahon after a brilliant passing move. Next up in Kilcummin away on Sunday 25th May.

Club Notes Week 17 2025

SFL Div.1 Dr. Crokes 1:13 Kerins O’Rahillys 1:14. A lively encounter with Kerins O’Rahillys served up plenty of drama, scores and cards. It was the Tralee side that opened the scoring in the 3rd minute before the impressive David Shaw struck a 2 pointer on 5 minutes. minutes later Mikey Casey created a goal chance, but Cian McMahon was unlucky to send the ball over the bar for a point. A David Shaw point and a Billy Courtney 2 pointer kept the scoreboard ticking over just before the interval. Half time Dr. Crokes 0:08 Kerins O’Rahillys 0:04. David Shaw opened the second half with a free. Momentum swung in favour of our opposition, who added a point and a 2 pointer in a number of minutes. Alex Hennigan was then taken down inside the box, resulting in a penalty which he coolly converted. Rahillys quickly responded with a 2 pointer before capitalising on a lapse in our defense, firing the ball passed Kacper Robak for a crucial goal. David Shaw, Billy Courtney and Alex Hennigan all notched up late scores. We were unlucky not to hit the back of the net after a missed goal chance, that came off the post, along with several wides in the closing stages.
