Club Notes Week 10 2024

SHL Dr. Crokes 0:08 Ballyduff 3:20. Our start to the 2024 County League was doused in a baptism of fire. Playing away to a very strong Ballyduff team, we were comprehensively beaten on the scoreboard which isn’t a true and accurate reflection of the game. Featuring a number of debutants to Senior Hurling, we traded parity with the hosts in the first half and competed equally for possession. While Ballyduff did assert themselves as the half wore on, only four points separated the teams at the interval. On the resumption, Ballyduff went straight for the jugular with a brilliantly taken goal, coming after only 60 seconds. Reeling from Ballyduff’s restart we shipped a succession of scores, including another superbly taken goal by one of Kerry’s U20 stars. We refused to give up and every player battled vigorously and determinedly for every ball. As is often the case in hurling encounters, it was only in the last 10 minutes that the gap broadened into a chasm and it has to be said that the home team played brilliant a brand of fast, direct hurling. Featuring six U20 Kerry players, this is certainly a team to watch out for in the future. Our boys can take encouragement and heart from the spirit shown by the players and the marksmanship of Mark Heffernan who scored all 8 of our points. He was ably assisted by Cathal White, playing in front of his erstwhile home crowd, and Dave Carroll who mixed panache with pugnacity in a tigerish display. Next up is Ballyheigue on St. Patrick’s Day at 12pm in Lewis Road.

Academy Our Academy continues every Saturday morning, for boys and girls between 4 and 11 from the Killarney area. Hurling from 10-11 and Football from 11:15-12:15. Fun and friendship guaranteed. Bring a friend.

Club Notes Week 30 2023

LGFA U14 We welcomed John Mitchells to Lewis Road on Monday evening for a top of the table clash in our County League Division, looking maintain our 100% record. Despite conceding a goal after 10 seconds, the girls settled into the game and soon we were moving the ball and kicking some great points. We went in up the bare minimum at half time and were facing a strong breeze in the second half. We need not have worried as the girls played brilliantly against the wind and we ran out convincing winners on a scoreline of 0:09 to 1:02. This was a great team display, with all 18 players contributing to a fine win. We have finished on top of the table and go into a Semi Final full of confidence.

U11 Well done to our U11 boys who took part in a Munster blitz in the Fitzgerald Stadium last week. We played games against An Gaeltacht, Listry and Donoughmore from Cork. The boys were then treated to a tour of the changing rooms and warm up area from last years Kerry captain Joe O’Connor. Thanks to our own Pat O’Shea and Joey Carton from Munster GAA and to Donal Daly and Mike Quirke from Kerry GAA for organising the event.

U11 Hurlers Well done to our U11 hurlers who hosted Newport from Tipperary in a challenge game last week. It was a great evening of hurling and it was great to host everyone for pizza in the clubhouse afterwards.

U12 LGFA Our U12s were at home to Moyvane in the County League on Wednesday last. Short of numbers due to holidays etc we had to dig deep. We gave a great display in a cracking game to come out on top 6:10 to 6:08. Every girl played their part in this thriller. We are delighted with the progress this squad is making.

LGFA U14 Our U14 girls travelled the short distance to Direen on Monday evening to play our near neighbours, Legion B. After a tense opening the girls settled into the game and scored a couple of well worked goals and a few points from range. Our midfield kept the ball in the right half and our forwards moved the ball well. Our backs were always in control and we got to half time with a healthy lead. The second half saw more of the same, though the conditions made keeping the ball hard the girls played some lovely football and held out for the win.

LGFA U14 Our girls travelled to Ballyduff on Sunday afternoon for their first County League match. We were missing several players but came out on top of a thrilling match 3:14 to 4:08. We put in a great display of attacking football. Our forwards moved the ball well between each other and 3:14 was a great score to clock up. Midfield put in a great display and our backs defended like their lives depended on it. Credit to Tia Bruton who stepped into goal and did not let the team down, her kick outs were fantastic.
