Club Notes Week 17 2019   29/04/2019

Weekly Notes 29th of April

(Week 16)

Kerry Club Championship - Final

Played in Austin Stack Park on Sunday 28th of April

Austin Stacks 1-21 Dr Crokes 1-15

Even though we scored 1-15 which would win you most matches we suffered a six point defeat at the hands of Austin Stacks. It was nip and tuck for three quarters of the game but our opponents were well on top in the last quarter and were well worthy of their win. It was apparent in this period that they had the fresher legs and kicked some great scores.

There was always defining periods in games and the Stacks had two such periods in this game. At the start of the second quarter they sent over six points without reply in seven minutes to go ahead by a point after we had led 1-4 to 0-2. In the next few minutes we had three unanswered points to go two points ahead. The teams exchanged points just before injury time. In time added on our opponents had a penalty which they converted. This was probably a big boost to them as instead of going in behind by two points at the interval they found themselves a point ahead.

The third quarter was very even but we outscored the Stacks three points to two to leave the teams level as we faced the last quarter. The first ten minute period of this quarter was another purple patch for the opposition who outscored us five points to one for a 1-16 to 1-12 lead. In the remaining five minutes of normal time and five minutes which was added on we needed a goal but Austin Stacks kept their goal intact and had four points to our two in these remaining minutes.

Congratulations to the Rockies on their great victory. They played well after a slow start and converted some very good scores. We on the other hand had some good chances at the start of the second half but failed to convert.

You often learn more from losing than from winning and hopefully this might happen to us. We didn't play badly on the day and 1-15 wins a lot of games. We did however play second fiddle to a better team on the day. This team of ours is far from finished. I think they will come back a team still very much in contention for a four in a row. The good rest we will get should very much refresh us for the Autumn.

Team and Scorers: Shane Murphy, John Payne 0-1, Mike Moloney, David O'Leary, Michael Potts, Alan O'Sullivan, Johnny Buckley 0-1, Daithi Casey 0-5 (0-2 frees),  Micheal Burns 0-2, Gavin O'Shea 1-1, Brian Looney, Tony Brosnan 0-2, Kieran O'Leary 0-1, David Shaw 0-1.

Under 16 Girls

Dr. Crokes 5-3 Fossa 1-6

Another victory for our U 16 ladies in Div 4 of the County League away to near neighbours Fossa. A delayed start due to a Referee mix up did not deter Dr Crokes and although Fossa only had 13 players they had plenty of scoring chances with some well taken points but could not get past a superb defence. Dr Crokes capitalised on breaking down the Fossa attack and on the counterattack converted several goal chances. The game was evenly matched but Dr Crokes were much more clinical. Well done to the panel tonight .Keep the momentum going.
