Club Notes Week 35 2022   05/09/2022

Club Notes, 5th September 2022

Minor Club Championship Dr. Crokes 1-12 Kenmare 0-15. Dr. Crokes win 3-1 on penalties. Our Minors have qualified for the Club Championship semi-final after defeating County League Champions, Kenmare, on penalties after an absorbing encounter in Kenmare. Level at the end of normal time it took an Alex Hennigan 45 metre free with the last kick of the game, in injury time to send the game to penalties. Three converted penelties from Cathal Kelly, Neil O’Carroll, and after Kacper Robak saved, Shay O’Meara converted the winning penalty.

North Kerry SHC Quarter Final Dr.Crokes 2-14 Crotta O’Neills 1-19. On Monday last, with little wind and summer sunshine, we were level heading into the halftime break, 1-06 to 0-09 points in Dromakee. The Crokes goal came midway through the first half with a lovely finish from Jack Lenihan. Other points for Crokes came from Tom Doyle, a couple from Jack while Mark Heffernan was accurate as ever from the dead ball. A few fine scores from Crotta in the early stages of the second half has us trailing by 4 at one point, but frees from Mark Heffernan and a great strike by Mike Milner had us right back in the game. Some outstanding defensive work from Stephen Foley, Cathal White and James Murphy meant we kept the Crotta attack at bay for the majority of the second half. A fantastic save from goalkeeper Conor Bohane, was capitalised on as we went up the field where substitute Charlie Keating broke past the Crotta defence and buried a lovely goal into the top corner to give Crokes a two point lead. Unfortunately the lead was relinquished late on with Shane Nolan frees plus a goal as the clock struck the 60 minute mark. We trailed by 2 going in to stoppage time. A goal was our only option and some great defending by our opponents denied us an opportunity to win at the end. Our North Kerry Championship has come to an end, having seen us knock Lixnaw out in the earlier round. The year is far from over as the seniors will have will have another chance of silverware in the South Kerry Championship. Our juniors have the South Kerry League to look forward to while the quarter final of the County Junior Hurling Championship is also to come.

LGFA U17 County Championship Semi Final Dr. Crokes 2-06 Southern Gaels 3-09. In a game played in beautiful Portmagee, it was nip and tuck early in the first half with both sides producing some fabulous scores. However, the opposition snuck in two late goals to finish the half stronger on a score line of 2-04 to 1-03. Our girls played their best football of the night in the early stages of the second half with Katie McCarthy stepping up to slot home a beaut of a penalty to bring the deficit back to 3 points. Southern Gaels however got a second wind and took their points well in the closing stages to hold out for the win. We send our best wishes to the Southern Gaels player who fell ill on the night.
