Club Notes Week 36 2022   12/09/2022

Senior County Championship Dr. Crokes 2-14 St. Kierans 0-14. We opened our County Championship campaign on Sunday last with a 6 point win over St. Kierans in Milltown. We set the tone early in the game and continued to maintain this impressive form throughout with our first 8 points coming from 8 different scorers. Cian McMahon was unlucky not to rattle the back of the St. Kierans net just before the half time whistle. We led 0-09 to 0-05 at the break. We continued the second half just as we left the first half, working hard and defending well. Within 2 minutes of the second half we had clocked up 1-01 from play with a Mark Fitzgearld point and a Cian McMahon goal. The goal coming from a beautiful David Shaw foot pass. Neil O’Shea and Michael Potts continued to impress at the back before Kieran O’Leary sent a bullet passed the St. Kierans goalie in the 27th minute giving us a comfortable 9 point lead with 3 minutes left to play. St. Kierans rallied late in the game scoring 3 successive points from play.

U13 East Kerry Our U13 team concluded their East Kerry campaign at home on Friday night against our neighbours Spa. Both players and management marked a minute's silence before the game for the late Patsy Cremin RIP. This was our third time playing Spa and with a one-point win by both sides already, we always felt it was going to be close.  Both teams delivered a fantastic game of end-to-end entertainment. Spa began the better putting 1-01 on the board before we got into the game, but we replied well with 4 unanswered points. Some superb scores and at times even better defending meant there was little between the sides at half time. Spa leading by 1-07 to 1-05. We began slowly in the second half and Spa extended their lead with 15 minutes gone, but our boys showed the characteristics that you can only be proud of, coming back into the game with a bang and drawing level with time almost up. Unfortunately, Spa got a late free to decide the game. Huge congratulations to the boys for their effort and commitment all year. The future is definitely bright in the black and amber. Thanks to the coaches Tim, James, Pat, Michéal, Colm and John for their time and effort with this group.

LGFA U14 Our lost out to a talented Laune Rangers on Sunday evening in Killorglin on a score line of 4-10 to 2-10 in the East Kerry league. Despite the loss the girls all played with great heart and determination and not a little skill. Siofra Randles led the way with a personal tally of 1-9 and, despite the sore, our backs played out of their skins, especially Katie O’Sullivan, Aoife O’Donoghue and Elizabeth Brosnan. Many of our girls are young and are improving with every game. Managers Eoin and Allan were very proud of the effort displayed by all 17 girls.

LGFA U12 Our U12 girls had a good win last Friday night at home in the East Kerry League against MKL. After a close first half, we trailed by 2 points at half time. An improvement in our play in the third quarter saw us take a good lead which we held to the end. All of our squad played their part and it is great to see everyone’s progress as the season goes on.
